Re: New STi

One of my many complaints about the new Subarus is that they just aren't ugly enough. Consider some of the cars I've been seen piloting over the last 11 years (both mine and family/friend's).

'87 Justy
'87 GL10 sedan
'87 XT
'84 BRAT
'03 Baja
'98 Forrester
'92 Legacy sedan
'92 SVX

With the exception of the Lego those cars are all very strange looking vehicles. I think this latest WRX gets back to their roots by proclaiming "I'm ugly, and if you don't like it I'll throw you in the mud." Subaru needs to embrace the quirkyness that's made them stand out for the last 30+ years. I was just looking at a 360 for sale earlier today, and man that thing had a serious ugly to it. I love them for it.

Ugly: It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru.

Nevermind the fact that Pontiac scored 29th out of 34 in reliability. It's obviously the grille style which caused the brand's demise.

Can't agree more minus the Baha. They're just too similar to the aztec in the WTF were they thinking catagory.

Sean, the coupe was nothing more than a waste of a car as it was really just a sedan with some sheet medal changes and structual re-engineering. Resulting in a "fat chick" in fact it weighed more then a similary equipped wagon deigned by the idiot who had a secret affection for the hot Ply. Duster.

The Baja is my mom's and I couldn't agree more on the WTF point. That's why I've got a standing offer of $4000 on it. She's gonna keep driving it 'till it's worth that, then that ugly/slow pig is all mine. I loves me some ugly Subaru.

For the first time ever, the 2011 STI can be had in either a 4-door or a 5-door version . Looks like Subaru was listening.

Re: New STi

That was the silliest teaser ad ever..

Also, is it just my imagionation or is Subaru getting progressivly slower than everyone else? They claim fastest sti ever (guess they mean off the lot cause some I've seen can eat this one) but it seems like as all the other car makes progress further, Subaru is inching along..

Last time I checked, 305hp isn't that impressive. I mean even Hyundai has a more powerful car than that.. And the Subaru has no excuese since it has a turbo already! It's just silly. Plus it looks like a turd and 6 cylinder is better.. Flat 4.. Jesus..

Re: New STi

Yeah John, Subaru started to listen indeed. Now they offer a hatch and a saloon to compete with Evo's, Focus, Citroen, etc..
But having an advantage would also providing a new RS and a new B series.
Design wise they should hire me to do it . lol I am kidding, they need to hire Giugiaro or Pinifarina to do that, on all its series, ESPECIALLY the new Legacy (the Legacy of Horror). The Evo is way cooler still..

Freeman, the only ticket to Subaru in terms of performance is Prodrive. If you watch Top Gear often, you would have seen that prototype that Clarkson tested and he couldn't even drift with... After running into circles at a very high speed, the car wouldn't budge as if it was on rails and... the Clarkson pucked

The 2006 Spec C Type RA-R was the fastest STi made. A conservative 320HP out of a fully hand assembled blueprint engine. But we don't get the cool limited Impreza STI's over here. My STi has 300hp (or 293hp - depending on the measurement requirements) and it was fast enough for a production car made by Subaru. The Hyundai probably won't stay with an STi around a track, which is where the STi is at home.

As far as a 4 cyl. vs. a 6 cyl. There is a reason for it... 2 litre max 4 cylinder engines for homologation into WRC or Group N. They are not going to drop a 6 into the Impreza for several reasons... one, it's just the wrong engine for it, the 4 is just so nice and revvy... and the 6 won't meet homologation rules.

But my judgment is impaired, as explained by letItSnow.
To me, this is the best design. I wish they would go back to it with the sti engine and drivetrain. It would be great to have that light weight RS with 300hp. If only they had imported the 22b

As some others have said--the STi has always been fugly to me. Not a one of them is even in the same ball park as the SVX.
