Average Fuel Consumption
I am concerned that my car is not running as economically as it should and down here as in many places outside the US high fuel prices make this a very real issue. Others may have the same doubts.
It would be of value if we could record a reliable figure for average fuel consumption in respect of the SVX for say three classes of driving. City commuting in fairly heavy traffic, highway cruising at moderate speed, and maximum performance driving on open give and take roads. Accurate figures will be essential and those who have taken reliable measurements should post their results so that averages can be established. When quoting gallons it will be important to stipulate US or imperial. I have seen many figures quoted in posts to the extent that the true facts have become rather confused so that I am sure the exercise will be of considerable interest and well worth while. Could someone also assist with a conversion factor for US gallons to litres (liters) as I have been unable to turn up a figure which I can be sure of. I hope a range of figures will be forthcoming so that accurate averages of use to all can be calculated.

On my daily 17 mile commute which includes some hills, highway driving at up to 65 mph, and multiple stop lights (25 minutes total time), I average 20 miles per US gallon of premium gas.

I get 24 to 25mpg (US) driving about 17miles on a back road, 46miles on a highway, sometimes stop and go. That is total of 63 miles per day to and from work.
The gas mileage is less when the tranny is cold and has to warm up. It takes about 30 minutes to warm-up completely. When the car is used for less than 30 minutes at a time the mileage will be poor. That is why on, a long trip the gas mileage is good. The SVX is a highway car. With the windows up and a/c on the air drag is less. So that helps more than the power taken by the a/c. I too only use Mobil Premium |

I average 21 MPG (US) in mixed traffic (40 mile, one-way commute to work with mix of winding country roads, 4-lane highway and stop 'n' go traffic). Speeds range from 80 at their highest and a creeping 15 MPH at their lowest.
My highway mileage comes in consistently at 26 (actually, just short of 27, but, I don't want to be too optimistic) average MPG (US) running with or without air, at an average speed of 80 MPH.

thats pretty good...
....with my svx i only get anywhere from 19-24 MPG but i have a lot of short distance driving...stop and go......up hill, down hill.....and traffic moves from about 50-70 MPH and on the highway i move with the traffic at about 75 MPH or so. When i first bought my car and drove it up to alaska from washington i averaged 31 MPG and that is the best i have ever gotten out of it....but for a 6 cylinder i will cut it some slack!

Trevor - Do you Kiwi folks do mileage the way we do mileage?
That is, we do how many miles (or Kilometers) you can drive on a gallon (or X number of liters/litres). The European way is (or was) to measure how many liters/litres are used per 100 kilometers of driving. This always drove me nuts when I was in Germany, but it's like the metric system vs. our weird feet & inches - it's what you grew up with. My mileage on a 3500 mile trip was 27.75. Daily commute & around town about 23-24 MPG. I use any old brand of gas that's handy as long as it's 92-93 octane. Ron.

I only use it on hwy running,
Cruising at 120kph (70mph) it gives 8.5lt/100kl =26.9m/USgl =33m/Imp gal Cruising at 210kph (130mph) returns 10.5lt/100kl, = 22.9m/USgl, = 26.9m/Imp gal. 98 octane is $1.04 a liter. Harvey.
