Question antenna

Has anyone tried one of those generic "$47.00" antennas for sale on E-Bay? Subaru wants an arm and a leg.

thanx for the help.

Is your antenna motor out, or is the mast just broken. You can replace the mast for about 30 bucks and a half hour's time.

Broken Antenna

While someone's on the subject my mom's Legacy Turbo has the antenna stuck up (even if you give it a good push it won't budge You can hear the motor work. Any ideas on fixing it or even what might be wrong with it. She's a teacher and I'm sure the kids would love to get ahold if it.

uh... that looks like your line inside the antenna is loose. Open up the motor housing and you should easily reattach it.

Angry Apparently what happened is the antenna

froze in the up position last winter and my son ran the car throught the car wash.

Now the thing is flailing from the car...so he decides to tug on it and droop it into the trunk

I can hear a motor running when I turn the radio on, but I presume the whole system (mast, plastic thingy, motor, etc.) will need to be replaced.

with regard to the Ebay antennas...

I'm pretty sure all those antennas were bought a K-Mart stores close-out. I looked at them and don't believe they will work. Here's why.

The SVX makes use of a curved part between the mast and the motor. The Ebay antenna does not.

There isn't room to go straight down with the Ebay model replacement.

The SVX mast has a unique part as it comes out of the trunk and up thru the fibreglass part of the lid. There's the part that's visible on top, then another part down below that would require a long threaded section of some sort for a replacement. Not on the Ebay model.

I have seen other universal antennas that seem to use the same motor/cord housing that might be able to be "merged" with a good mast. I don't think the Ebay model meets those criteria.

I just posted an antenna how to here:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...&threadid=5087

If the mast was ripped out, it *may* be able to be re-inserted following the instructions and it should also take care of any problems like no raising/lowering but you hear the motor run.

After years of dirt and rain, the mast gets gooked up with crap and can be cleaned to work like new.

Enjoy.

thanx guys. I see this board is as friendly

and helpful as the 3SI board. I am looking forward (maybe someday) to contributing.

FWIW: I purchased a set of 4 rotors from RaceConcepts for my VR-4 and was highly satisfied. I plan on purchasing a set for my SVX, also.

This is exactly what happened to my antenna. I made a mistake and bought one on ebay which they claimed would fit the SVX. I had to return it because it was straight up while the SVX model is curved. I was advised so many times here in the network that I would need to buy only the mast. I found one at 1stsubaruparts.com for $35 something, and yesterday my boyfriend installed it with no problem. Today it's working nicely. It was a little tricky but he did it!

I'm not familiar with the 3SI board, but, I hope we're even MORE helpful. We not only offer advice on cars, but, provide group therapy, advice for the lovelorn, child rearing insights and occasional reality checks. I think you'll like it here.
