Dave
I was refering to Gen II Brats of which I think it was like 21k or so imported. Even still at 90k everyone must've traded 'em in every 2 months so everyone in America got to experience one

1969 Alfa Romeo GTV

One day at a family reunion in 1987, my aunt (2 or 3 times removed) approached me and asked if I would help her get rid of a car in her garage. She tells me her son had this blue car stored since 1975 when he moved out to go to college, but never came back for it.
Lo and behold, under 13 years of dust, was an immaculate 1969 GTV, blue with tan interior. The dash was perfect (very rare for these cars as most split from UV damage). She sold it to me for $300.
I trailered it to Altlanta (where I lived at the time). Just for kicks, I drained and re-filled the tank (it was FULL of 13 year old gas), changed the fluids, plugs and a fresh battery and the car started and ran. Around $300 in misc restorations parts (brakes mostly), I had a time capsule daily driver GTV.

The speedo didn't work, so the odo reading was pretty meaningless, but I look back at that as the equivalent of finding and driving one of the 19K miles SVX'1 recently on eBay, only for a lot less money.

GTV

I miss my rolling coffin, more commonly known as a 77 celica fastback. Only had 45000 or so original miles before that guardrail jumped out in front of me.

Hey,
Why is the 1979 volvo 242gt such a great car? My buddy had one, got it for like $150 and drove it home. He let me drive it the first day and it overheat and lost power all at the same time, it broke a belt. Same paint as the one in the pic.... silver with the stripes, nifty lookin seats, and some wierd switch in the middle of the sifter that didn't do anything. Anyway after he fried like 6 junkyard alts he sold it for $300 and that guy drove it around for a while. We recently saw it in a yard that I frequent, and I was really sad. The car was a blast to drive and the guy told me he was just tired of its quirks........ I was almost pissed. Anyhoo, I like to ramble so I don't even have an SVX, but a XT-6 and the legendary japaneese sports car, the Datsun 280 Z.

Now that's one sweet car. The 240Z's were even more highly regarded. I used to own a '90 300ZX TT back in college. Those Z32's could really haul butt...

I've got nothing.

My parents, however, have a 1969 Nova SS 396/375 and a 1971 Corvette. My uncle has a 1957 Chevy and a 1964 Pontiac wagon. My grampa has a 1967 Cadillac. My cousin has a 1955 Chevy set up for drag racing. My aunt has a 1968 Chevelle SS 395/325. Another cousin restores classics:

It had great potential, mine had the stock suspension which has shorter struts and beefier springs and sway bars. IPD makes lowering springs that made it handle like a dream. The engine crapped out at 400,000 miles. The switch is for overdrive, it only works in 4th gear.

1993 Kawasaki ZX-11 and 1979 Honda CBX

Both were the fastest thing available at the time.

Insurance companies list the ZX-11 as having an average life span of 9 months. Mine has been totaled three times, thus it was very inexpensive when I scraped it up off of I-405 and rebuilt it. It used to be entirely black.

During the early 80's, the Honda CBX was in direct competition with the Suzuki GS-1000. The Suzuki was a better motorcycle in every way, but was a couple tenths of a second slower in the quarter mile. The Suzuki cost half as much, handled better, was more reliable, got better mileage, etc.. Everybody went to the dealership and ogled at the Honda, but ended up going home with a Suzuki. The CBX is now a collector's item. It's value continues to go up.

The CBX is famous for it's engine. Many custom motorcycles have been built with this powerplant. A V-12 has been custom built using this block. A 350 horsepower supercharged version is a daily commuter for one fellow. Single and twin-turbo versions have been built. Mine only produces about 130 horses.

[edit]Come to think of it, I guess these don't really count. Neither are cars, and the Kawasaki isn't really ugly. ...well, only when it's totalled. Got a little excited when I saw some of those other machines. [/edit]

one favorite

Well I guess my 72 Chevelle qualifies for desirable. With a total rebuild on a 355 with 300+ horse, a built 350 turbo and a 273 rear end it gets the blood flowing. The only down side is it doesn't stop real good. I have the original build sheet and hope when I give it away to my 18 year old, it survives.
