Stereo upgrade project

OK. Finally getting around to installing the stereo in my '92. I found a guy on Craigs List that will help with the install. I am hoping this works out. I met him to discuss the options and he seemed knowledgeable.

I already installed Alpine speakers (6.5"s in the front (model Alpine SPS - 610) and 6X9's in the rear). The fronts came with a spacer/bracket that replaced the oem bracket perfectly. The rears were a direct replacement. I had hoped to reuse the stock brackets in the front, but the speakers were just a tad too large as described in other threads. I lucked out that spacer/brackets came with the speaker in the box. The 3 holes lined up perfectly with the holes in the door. I also installed a new OEM antenna. Everything else is original. HU is dark at night and not enough to power the new speakers. I bought the harness that is discussed on this forum. I sent about $700 to Crutchfield and received the following goodies:

This will go in the corner of the trunk.

It's all going in here.

I will let you know how it goes.

Good luck with the install. Just curious but why did you need a guy from Craigslist?

Just wanted someone familiar with hooking up wiring and tuning and had the tools. I probably could do it by myself but don't mind paying someone to do it for/with me. Rather have it done in a few hours.

How is your alternator doing? Is it the original 95A unit?

If not, the 160A high- output units for the SVX from Maniac Electric Motors is a very wise investment.

I think it is original and no issues yet. We will see if I get any dimming issues with the new stereo. I saw the threads going back for a bit on this topic. Certainly the way to go when the Alt. goes. Maybe before, if I have issues.

Re: Stereo upgrade project

Status of project.

Everything turned out great. I will post pictures soon. Now I am legal talking on the phone and it is so nice with HD radio and blue tooth audio. Huge improvement. I am in the 21st century, finally. PS no real electrical issues (yet) such as dimming at idle.
