Question Flash2Pass?

I know from personal experience the frustration of having to be right in front of my garage door to activate the opener through the windshield, due to the layer of titanium in the windshield for solar protection of the dash/upholstery. Tonight I caught a product review on DIY that mounts a separate transmitter under-hood, using a double flash of the Hi-beams to do the trick, eliminating the problem. Has anyone tried this product, and if so, how about any personal experience with installation and use?

Haven't see them before, but the system looks interesting. It is a bit pricey, but would probably be fine.

I say just stick your garage door opener out the window or out the sunroof...

I just hold my remote against the side glass and it opens the door from about 300' away.

Hmmmm, I'll have to try that. Been opening the window, or when open, shooting out the sunroof. Still like the idea though. Father's Day gift perhaps.

why not just get an extra remote to mess with, I had a relay wired up to the button contacts which was activated with a momentary switch/button inside the car. Worked well for me. Though my biggest reason is that I just removed the sun visor all together. I mounted my transmitter with the horn, the "clip" made for a nice bracket, just had to drill a single hole in it and in the unit... very useable afterwards.

I don't think the headlights actually have anything to do with the transmitter - it's not light-activated. Otherwise there could be issues with day/night/different vehicle heights, and worse of all, anyone could just pull up to your garage and flash their hi-beams twice to break in!

I think it is just the headlight switch itself, being clicked in the proper sequence, that activiates the transmitter, which is coded to your particular receiver, which is then coded to your garage door opener.

So regardless of where your car is or is facing, once you are in range flashing the highs will activate the system, even if you are backing in, or even if you are still down the street a little ways.

That said, it's kinda expensive and a bit gimmicky.

yep i aggree, some soldering, and patience you can have a "under hood"
transmitter. having a push button in the car or, you could even wire a relay from your head lights to do it!

I've done a remote garage door transmitter before.

I simply placed the internals of the garage door transmitter in a weather-resistant box under the hood, then unsoldered the button from the remote, and soldered wires in place. I brought the wires into the vehicle in a split loom tubing, and mounted it in the dashboard. It was rather discreet, and I mounted an LED light on the dash to make sure that the battery was working.

I tried that on my genie system before "final installing" mine in and it wouldn't work. the relay solved the issue and only required one wire.

BTW ...hooking the relay up to your headlights will kill the battery
