Transmission swaps

can I install a 4EAT tranny from another Subaru, Nissan Pathfinder or Mazda MPV into my '92 SVX whilst I rebuild my own tranny?

From what I understand.... NO the SVX is all by its self. The 4EAT is just a type as in 4 speed Electronic Automatic Transmission. The guts are all different, gear ratios, TCU's, control valve, differentials......

Another Subaru, Yes, the others, No.
To use another Subaru, you must also swap out the rear diff, so it will match the front diff in the new tranny.

what if I remove the rearmost driveshaft and use it as a front-drive while I repair the OEM?

You can do that, As Randy can verify from experience.
But bet you like the lower gears of the Legacy tranny.

You can even get a FWD Legacy or Impreza tranny to put in till you get the OEM one repaired, the FWD tranny are a lot cheaper to come by, and if you're not going to use the AWD why pay for it
