Fuel injection (at least for the mid-trim GLs) arrived in '87 or '88. The aforementioned wagon had a carburetor, and our '88 3-door had throttle-body FI, which, as I recall, added a heart-pounding 7 hp.

Both, I was after FI partly for a closed loop system and the fact that I prefer to work on FI cars, unless it is pre smog. SMOG & carbureators just don't go together

The 83 Turbo wagons were fuel injected along with the Turbo BRATS. 85 was the first year for the L-series and the dreaded EA82T's

87 was the last year of the carb - I had an 87 GL Wagon... Kicked its ass for 300k - a hole in the oil pan finnaly killed it (Loaned it to my mother)

Just about impossible to get stuck - but not a ton of power.
