caliper rebuild kits?

me girlfriend's father and i just put three hours of work into my car.. we bled and cleaned the brakes as best we could, reattached some side trim which was falling off, and replaced the oil dipstick o-ring

unfortunately, bleeding the brakes had no effect on my problem (no brake until the pedal gets uncomfortably close to the floor), and we decided that i would need back pads and four caliper rebuild kits.

where do i find caliper rebuild kits and how much do they cost?

also, what are the numbers i need to know for back pads? i replaced my front pads just about a year ago but the back ones are pretty low.. we figure that the differential in pad material is one possible cause for the late delivery of brake power..

any leads?

I ordered my caliper seal kits from subaruparts.com. Each seal kit comes with seals for both sides, so you only one front and one rear seal kit. Besides the seals, there really isn't anything else you need unless you want new guide pins or spare caliper bolts.

Front Seal kit: 26297PA010 $22.82

I posted the rear brake pages from the service manual on a thread somewhere. Try searching for it.

The rears are real easy to rebuild compared to the fronts.

Simple Green and a brass brush cleans off the stagnant funk on the pistons and caliper slides real well. Just wash them thoroughly with soap and water after to make sure there is no cleaner remaining that could break down the brake fluid or grease.

To install the front dust boots, I cut a 2" section of 2" central vacuum pipe (sch 80). I grease up the boots, stretch the piston side of the boot over the pipe, tuck the caliper side of the seal into the groove, then I install the piston through the center of the pipe into the caliper and pull the pipe out and the seal will snap onto the piston.
