Solid copper head gaskets

Does anyone have any ideas if copper head gaskets work or not, are then better then the orignal?

1995 - SVX 700,000 K Mine, DMS Struts to lift car 2in. Tyres Wrangler Silent Armor 235/70R16, PBR Radiator. 6 speed with DCCD and R180 rer diff, Heavy duty top strut mounts front and rear. Speedo correction box fitted. New stero (gave up on the old one). Back seat removed and 2 spare tyres fitted for desert driving. ECUTune SC sitting in the box for the next SVX.
1992 - SVX 255 K Wife (Want to stay Married so not allowed to fit SC)
1992 - SVX Pearl with black roof race car roll cauge etc ready to race. Ex Tasman Targa car.
1995 - SVX Green low k mint condiation.
1995 - SVX Rally car, ex Matts car. Now to be used on track.
1992 - SVX red & Black being converted to Mid Engine.
1995 - SVX Red 143,000 bit rough.
Owned 5 others Subaru back to a 1974 1400 GSR.

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX
Most people that use copper gaskets do so because you can re-use them, and they will generally handle more boost than stock gaskets...

Not that I know of, but I was considering getting some made for our car at one time. I'm going with cometic head gaskets now. They are off the shelf. At one time I was considering reducing the compression with copper head gaskets, but decided against it. It would be interesting to see if it would work though.

The disadvantage of coppers is that (as I have read in the past) gets "eaten" by water... any comments on that?

Copper roofs are the longest lasting roofs.....and they are exposed to water....

I just hadn't heard that before, but I've never used a copper gasket before...but know some drag racers that do....

There is already a company that makes copper head gaskets for the EG33. I can't remember the name, but I can look it up.

FWIW, the true down side to copper gaskets is they tend to 'weep', or seep coolant until the engine is up to temp. Even fully annealed, they are not truly compressible. I ran a copper head gasket on my Toyota 22R w/supercharger 20+ years ago, and it was aggravating to say the least. There was always coolant leaking, and that was with ARP head studs and with an o-ringed block. Hylomar is supposedly the best thing to use to prevent or reduce the seepage, but I never tried it back then.

There are some real interesting issues coming out it would be good to find some one using them now.
