The Answer to the $10,000 Question
The question, of course is "If there were ~15,000 SVX's sold in the US alone, why aren't there more active contributors on the board???
granted, we have a pretty healthy membership, most of whom drive one or more SVX's, but i've always been a little curious who's driving the other 14,000 SVX's????? the answer? EARL!! no, just kidding, I think that the answer for the most part is "Old People." no offence to our more "geriatrically-inclined" members, but based on what i've heard from friends around the country, most SVX sightings seem to involve elderly people at the wheel. I can think of about two reasons for the seemingly sizeable number of old people behind the wheel of SVX's: 1) these people have no idea what's going on. they wandered into a dealership and bought the first car that they bumped their walker into or, more realistically.. 2) they've driven a LOT of cars in their lifetime and they realize just how good a car the SVX is.. affordable, reliable and comfortable, all provided you keep them properly maintained. My grandmother has a good friend, 80+ years old who drives a '92 Claret/Black SVX. He tells me that out of the 25 cars he's owned in his lifetime, the SVX is by far the best he's ever had. That's coming from a guy whose "other car" is a Jaguar convertible.. I think these people know EXACTLY what's going on in life.. they just don't let it on to the rest of us -adam thinking out loud on the radio can be dangerous.. |

same theory holds for our 'other' suby
I've had the same theory going for our Forester. It seemed for while all I saw where old people driving this nice 'small' family vehicle.
Lately though, I think the advertising is finally working because all I see driving the thousands of Foresters I see (practially daily I'll see a dozen or so) are younger people.

Another observation that I have is - how many are now off of the road (wrecked)? Just looking at the membership here, the number that have been wrecked has surprised me. One by one, they start to decline in numbers.
I also think that there are a lot of people who really don't care about belonging to a Forum that discuss their car. They just take it to the dealership and have them do the work on it. Yes, older people in general have the money to do this, but not always.

I don't think a majority of SVX owners know how scarce their car really is...

I think this is true for Soobs in general. Everytime I see an older Subaru, about 98% of the time it's an older person. And then THAT'S where people like us get good deals...When they decide to sell them. Hasn't happened for me yet, though.

C'mon now, the percentage of total SVX owners who are in this club is very high compared to other cars. There is also the Yahoo club to occupy some of them.

face it, no matter what subaru does or what the car looks like or drives like subaru will always have the image of a conservative, safe "sensable" car, they tried twice to get away from that image, the svx and you all do remember that ad for the xt, "but dad, this IS a subaru".

So answer or think about this..If this car wasn't technically a 'Subaru' you think participation and interest would be more than what it is now?

I'v always liked Suabrus of all kinds but lately they are becoming so mainstream that you see them everywhere driven by people that don't even care what it is.

"What happened to them all"
From what I seen at the Dlr a lot of SVX's fall victim to trans failure
especially the early yrs. Over 3k is a lot for a veh that 5+ yrs old and for most of the tuner crowd the car simply isn't fast enough. older imprezza's are a lot more desireable because of the aftermkt parts that aer availible. I know where 2 are now, one has very little wrong with it and the guy wants 3k. The other one needs the dredded trans. |

Where would they be, I might be interested in a second. If it's cheap enough. I just got the one I'm in, so really cheap would be nice. Im thinkin parts car, if not a driver.
