Satin

Yes I finaly layed the topcoat down. After a year of prep and prime. This has been my color of choice for over 3 years now. But it wasn't until now that things finaly came together. Ive got over 100 photos of the process from start to finish ... heres some of the main point shots.

Re: Satin

And the finish. Satin black. Hot rod flatz single stage to be exact. This is my second time spraying this finish on a car. Came out ok. Not perfect. But the whole process was done in my shop were dust is minimal but is still floating around. Like most say its a love it or hate it color/finish. i personaly love anything satin.

Re: Satin

That is it for now. Still have the doors and trunk lid to paint. Then I am having a co-worker paint the lower door trim and lower half of the bumpers gloss black to change the color sceme up a bit. Hopefully a class glass hood with be in store. i wish I could find an affordable enough carbon fiber hood but have had no such luck.

Didn't want to post anything up until I had some solid progress, i can't stand cliffhanger posts myself. There will be more to come in the upcoming month or so when the car is truly complete.

Re: Satin

Looking great gwarusee. Thanks for the progress shots. Can't wait to see the finished job.

Sensational to see all the hard word starting to deliver what you had in mind.

Cheers from Oz

Re: Satin

Got a bit more done today.

The trunk lid came out quite streaky. I did not overlap my paths enough.

I was originaly going to go gloss black for the lower trim but I am contimplating going grey. Keeping the whole car satin shean. For some reason I think the two tone would look good. Plus its almost a dead on match for the interior trim.

This pic catches the flash good and gives you a good idea of how the paint lays down. Dead on there is no reflect, but at angles it gives a little feedback.

Thats it for now. Thanks for the input everyone.

looks really nice, I've always been a fan of satin paint jobs myself.

Tight.
That's one hellofa job to take on. I like the fact that your doing the WHOLE car, and not skimping on hidden items.

Tinting with it?

Yeah, I can't stand a nice paint job on the outside but then opening the door and seing the jams a different color. The only area that will still be red is the engine bay which I do not mind as much. I hope to have them tinted, just need to find a reputable shop in my area. Ive got plenty of time once the painting is done to search one out, along with a good exhaust shop to re-run where I pulled the stock muffler out. Putting the car back together is going to be a fun endeavor. I have a box of at least 200 unsorted bolts

Re: Satin

Mocked up the trim just for an idea . I am going to refinish them with the same grey they are. My final project will be refinishing the wheels, I am just going to keep them the same argent silver.
