yellow svx mirror on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=110228096250

Surely this must be from Scoobymal's car. I wonder what happened to it.

Yes. It the factory paint job. The colours are off in the photo. My car parked next to it is actually claret but it looks black.

As far as we know there is/was only one yellow SVX in the UK.

Wow!. Phil, that sure looks ominous all right. So far as I can remember Mal bought an Audi A5 diesel coupe, and the yellow car was up for sale. If he sold it, and I presume so, the new owner never appeared on the Network.

This is a picture in my old locker. Far too nice a car to be written off, I sure hope not.

What bodes even worse, the seller appears to have a lot of varied car parts. Making it look as if its gone to the junkyard, or breakers, whatever your local term is.

Makes me a sad crazyhorse, the rarest, of the rare.

Good news

I have what I think is good news on this.

I emailed the seller and asked a few questions. I asked if he had the rest of the car. I asked if it had been "written off". I asked if the car was bad or could it be salvaged.

He replied that the car was "long gone", no parts left, these vehicles are very rare he said.

This implies to me that this mirror comes from a yellow car that was totalled way back, about the time or before the time I got Ballistic Plum maybe 1999. I remember getting some parts from an English breaker, and I brought back a small piece of yellow plastic as a souvenir.

Phil, I had actually forgotten about the piece of yellow plastic I have outside. It implies that there were at least two yellow SVXs in the UK at some time. It is very possible, indeed very likely, that Mal's car is OK.

Thumbs up

Good to hear from you Mal.

The sad bit is SVXs are making rock bottom prices at the moment. The smart thing to do is hold on to them till the market picks up.

No matter how you look at it, these cars are rare, and will eventually be collector's items.

I hope you are right Joe.

Last summer, or maybe it was the one before, I went to a classic car show. There were lots of cars that I remember from my youth: VW Golf MkI, Lancia Delta Integrale, Austin Metro 6R4, Audi Coupe Quattro, Ford Sierra Cosworth. These are all enthusiast cars like ours with owners clubs and the like.

Then I realised what was missing from the show. All the crap boring everyday cars that nobody thought were worth preserving. Cars like Ford Granada, Vauxhall Cavalier, Peugeot 405, Austin Montego, Renault 21. Actually I can't even remember the names of some of them. At the time, there were hundreds of thousands of these cars on the road compared with just a few thousand enthusiast motors. But now they've all gone to the crusher and the enthusiast motors outnumber them ten to one.

I do wonder whether a POS Vauxhall or Ford from 1992 might actually end up being worth more than an SVX, because it will be more rare and people will see it and say "hey I used to have one just like that!"

Yeah, Phil, I'm in general agreement with what you say.

I used to be heavily into the Classic Car scene before I got busy with the SVX. A lot of what you say applies. As the cars get older, there tends to be a strong preponderance of sports cars and rare models well preserved. They would have been around in lower numbers, and were preserved or cared for.

On the other hand there is always a healthy market for Fords in particular, and Vauxhalls and Opels. I'm of the opinion that this is partly related to these manufacturers ruling the rally world in the 60s, just like Subaru and Mitsubishi have ruled since the 90s. Only partly related.

The other factor that keeps people buying bog standard Fords and so on is the fact that most of us fellows probably got our first grope in one. This history is never to be seen on the MoT slips, but I'm sure it's an added nostalgia that is part of what keeps people buying these heaps of junk.

I have seen this pic before, but I never noticed this... What are the little black things on the bumper infront of the headlights?

Those are the nozzles for the headlight power wash system.

The UK cars and Euro cars got a high pressure wash system for the glass headlights.

Glad to see that still in one piece!

Unfortunately, the lure of an S500 coupe won me over.....for the time being
