-Stock R160 can be used without changing the gear ratio due to change in 06 that makes the ceneter diff a 1.1:1 vs the old 1.0:1

there you go, if thier info is accurate, the STi does have a 1.1:1 reduction in the transfercase.

So the final drive *is* 3.9, but they do an initial 1.1:1 reduction to lower driveshaft speeds and then a 3.545 rear diff

Nice...if my 5spd ever packs it in I'll be looking for a USDM 2006+ 6 spd!

One notes that the 2007 is different than the 2006 so, research that.... The ratios are certainly a hell of alot better

Re: 6 mt

Hello,

I have a question about the 6spd swap. I converted my svx from 5mt to 6mt sti. When i had the 5mt installed , it was very loud inside the car. While driving, you heard the transmission. It was like a dogbox but it ran fine.
Now, the 6spd is even louder, like a truck.

Did you cover the shifting gate with something? In this pic , there is a rubber boot installed. http://www.redlinegoods.com/images/F...install-04.JPG

Could it be the reason for this problem?

Thanks

That could definitely be the problem. I have the same issue, and mine is drowned out by the exhaust at highway speeds when it's the loudest, but I am pretty sure that putting a rubber "boot" type thing like on the stock M/T cars would lessen the noise from the trans greatly. Next time mine's apart I'll probably put in something like that.

Also, at least in my case, I know that the trans has a good number of miles on it, so the bearings and stuff inside the trans are getting to be whiny just due to wear, so I think that contributes somewhat.

There is a heat shield between the trans and the shifter area that is frequently deleted in m/t swaps. That also probably contributes a little.

Re: 6 mt

I'd like to think mine is fairly quiet. I'm currently working on a plate for the stock rubber seal on the shifter. I'll put it in my thread when I finish it.

Yea it works :P.
That's a good idea actually. Bolted down, or glued/sealed? I wonder if it would work as well if I made it out of something thinner and more manageable to me. Have you experimented with any rubber boot-type things under the actual shift boot?

Re: 6 mt

Yes, you should have a rubber piece like this that seals the the transmission tunnel. In the STi it is held in place by rubber tabs, you'll have to invent a way to seat it on an SVX.

Bottom rubber boot.
Aluminum diamond plate, bolted in.
Upper leather boot.

I used the automatic plate and modified it, it looks nearly the same. But its still very loud in the car (transmission and clutch noise).

I will try to get this original subaru rubber boot, which you can see @1:45min in this video:
