Green SVX in Hampshire

Hi,
Does anyone know anything about a green 1994 SVX with cloth interior near Southampton?
What do I need to know about when buying one of these cars?

Thanks

Tbird

Hi. Welcome to the site.

I don't have any information of that one specifically, but if it has a cloth interior then it must be an import. And if it's a green 1994 then it must be the S40-II version. I have one just like it. http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/b3lha/38054.jpg

See http://www.geocities.com/jamsvx/versions.html for a description of that model.

If I'm right then the dashboard will be painted grey rather than wood-effect, the roof will be green rather than black and there will be a button on the left of the steering wheel to disable the automatic door locks.

Check whether it has ABS and Cruise Control since these were optional on that model.

Other than that, usual SVX things to check: Check the transmission works properly, check the colour and smell of the transmission fluid. Listen for rear wheel bearing noises. Check any ECU codes.

There's an article in the HowTo section of this site that explains what to look for when buying an SVX.

Phil.

Hi Joe,

That car is on our list of UK-based SVXes:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?b3lha

Also, it was pictured in the June 2005 issue of Practical Performance Car magazine. Joe (svxistentialist) scanned the article and posted it here somewhere but I can't find it at present.

To find the info on buying a used SVX, click on How-To at the top right of the screen and then click on "Subaru SVX Information".

Phil.

My mistake. The scanned article featuring that car was too large (8.4MB) for Joe to upload here. I've put it on my website. You can download it from:

Welcome to another Joe!

Joe, in the How-To files at the top of the page [can you confirm you can see a set of links on the top RHS of the page?] and under Subaru SVX Information, there is a Word document mentions many things to look for.

http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?How-To|14346

Now it was written in the US, so the price references and mention of CarFax and so on are not relevant for us, but the general information on what to check on the car is relevant.

OK?

Joe

Thank you all so much for your help! You are a grand bunch of lads indeed!
I have now bought the Green SVX that was featured in that article in PPC magazine that was kindly given by Phil.
I love the car and the auto box changes very smoothly and the car runs very well. No doubt I shall be picking your brains when I do get probs with the car!
Anyone know where to to go for cheaper insurance? I am paying £264 from Norwich Union.

Thanks again lads

Joe, congratulations, and a very warm welcome to the Network and the club.

By club, I mean as a new owner of an SVX.

That looks to be a very nice car, I hope it goes well and gives you no trouble. Feel free to fire any questions you like at us. If we don't know, we usually know where we can find out!

Your insurance looks ridiculously cheap to me, but then I am in Ireland. Over here, the normal computation for anything that you have to have by law is think of a number and multiply it by two. [As an illustration, yearly road tax for the SVX over here is Euro 1367.]

Your SVX qualifies for "Classic" insurance in England, so it might be worth your while getting a quote from Carole Nash. They may of course insist on a mileage limit, but that's the way classic policies work.

Joe

Hi Joe,
Hope you enjoy the ownership of your SVX, I bought mine as a 'put me on' for a few months.....3 years ago

Insurance?! I got mine from Confused.com which lead me to More than, who have done it (a week ago) for £210.00 fully comp, with 3 points. spose it all depends on your own circumstances

If you get the chance, it would be worth a vist to the JAE in July to compare notes with other SVX owners...been a rarity........and it's not all tea and cucumber sandwiches you will be made most welcome.....I was!!.....as long as you bring yer car

Bejaney Joe, I am going to live in Dingle as soon as I sell this owl kip I'm in now! I am worried now about the costs in Ireland! I have a 2002 Thunderbird too! Where abouts are you?

Kildare.

But I don't mind driving to Dingle for a pint if you're buying.

Hi Joe,
All my family are from Kildare, mainly in Carbury, I could not afford to buy a house there now! I have found the place I want in Dingle, but I need to sell this place first. At least the housing market seems to have cooled down over there now!

Well Joe, it is cooling and slowing down, and that is preferable to the bubble bursting.

Carbury, we are neighbours. My wife's brother is farming there, and I have loads of cousins that you probably know called Mallons.

PM me

Joe

I'm in Maynooth.

What's a 2002 Thunderbird? Is it pink and has a Penelope inside?
