Outback 3.0 unimpressive

What gives?

Subaru is also proud to debut a new 6-cylinder, horizontally opposed 3.0-liter boxer engine that delivers 212 horsepower for plenty of muscle and powerful driving performance.
Lord... does NOONE know about the EG33? 212 hp is plenty of muscle? GIMME A BREAK! Someone go show this guy an SVX

Quote:
Drivers will immediately notice that the engine produces the majority of its torque, 174 lb.-ft., at just 2,200 rpm,
i DOUBT Id notice only 174 ft/lb... does that even QUALIFY as torque?

Quote:
In addition, a scavenging or light supercharging effect is produced in the cylinders by pressure pulses created when the intake valves close from the opposing cylinder. This increases the intake air volume, and the charging effect increases high-end horsepower performance.
Light supercharging effect? wtf?

the h6-3.0 was a new 6-cyl engine at the time. doesn't mean it was the first from subaru. the eg33 wasn't the first either.

Yep..the first mass produced Boxer 6 for Subaru was the ER27, which was only available in the XT6, with only 3 years of production 88-89, and 91....no 90 model...much shorter run than the SVX had

Check out the figures on the '05 3.0's . 250HP@6600RPM and 219lb/ft at 4200. Is that more like it? Still no replacement for displacement though!

We just bought an '05 Outback with the base 2.5L. I think it's rated at 168hp. Honestly, that's just fine for the Outback.

I think what's much cooler is that the Outbacks now have their AWD tuned to deliver more torque to the rear, where there's now a limited slip diff.

In 2005 I drove the 4 cyl. Outback, the 6 cyl. Outback (VDR) and the turbo 4 cyl. Outback (XT).
All cars had auto trannys.
IMHO the turbo 4 cyl. was the best of the lot.

A friend of mine at work was recently given a Tribeca, as a rental, at the Charlotte airport. He drove it for 3 days. He told me that it was grossly underpowered but he liked the seating.
He owns a Hundai Sonata and Dodge Caravan.

Im Drivin my mums outback 3.0H6 while my svx is off the road and it pulls hard... if it handled as good as an SVX the SVX would have no chance against it!!

I think the last sentence disqualifies your friend's statements immediately.

Anyway, my wife and I drove a Tribeca. Subaru was offering that ridiculous lease deal on the car, so we thought we'd check it out. It was not 'grossly underpowered' by any means. It's hardly a 'sports car SUV,' as the salesman said, but it gets around just fine. It has more than enough power.

I would hope a Tribeca would feel underpowered in comparison to a SVX. Thats a heavy vehicle and isnt designed to serve the purpose of the SVX. If someone wants an SUV that performs like a sports car then get an ML55 or X5 4.8i

You forgot about the Grand Cherokee SRT-8.

Not to mention the 2006 Toyota RAV4 V6 since for a little over $20k you can have an SUV that does the 1/4 in 14.9 seconds.

oh n0s!!1!11!!!1 SVX's getting smoked by teh RAV-4!

that's kinda why i got rid of mine - it still is a great looking car, and a great grand tourer, but i hadn't done much grand touring lately. it was OK in its day, but i needed some acceleration...
