I've had my PIAAs Platinum super whites (9005/9006/H-3) in for almost three years without a burnout problem (I also carry a spare bulb for each one). I attribute part of this to the alternator wiring mod. (It seems halogen bulbs fail from too little voltage than too much)
If or when they burn out I will definitely consider them. I wonder what the same conversion done to a HIR bulb would look like. Maybe like looking directly at the sun

Just curious if anyone here has bought and installed the HIR bulbs and are they worth the $30 bucks each plus shipping? So the total is about $75 bucks
I can buy alot of 100watt 9006 bulbs @ $20 bucks a pair for that price! Are they worth it

I'm considering doing this mod, but also have a question. I hope it's not too stupid a question, but if you do this mod, you're pretty much driving with highbeams as your lowbeams, right? That being the case and aside from legal issues, why don't you just drive with highbeams on from the get-go?

it works because the low beam is a projector that aims the light right in front of the car as the high beam is a big open reflector that aims the light higher up and farther down the road into the faces of oncoming drivers.

You show silverstars as your headlight mod are those the ones that burnt your wiring? cause those are my prefered bulbs. Also the "how to" dox say that you have to modify the bulb housing(or is this refernce to the pics above)?

No i used 9006 cool blue lights from some cheap company. Those burnt out the wires on the drivers side. I replaced it with a high intensity socket...been fine ever since.

I have not heard that any one had burnt up their wires until now. I have not changed the wires or modified the plug (just the bulb socket) and have not had any problems.
