Cooling fan dun broke

Well, my right-hand cooling fan has made a horrible squealing noise for...well...at least a year and a half. For most of that time it only made noise when the ar first started, and when the AC was turned on. I could make it stop by simply waiting or hitting the 'econ' button.

But, of course, it got worse.

We left Eagle River on Wednesday, and the cooling fan started squealing after a couple miles. It kept up for a good half an hour and finally quieted down. Heh, right, it quieted down.

When we stopped for lunch, I noticed that there was a sort of rumbling noise and a vibration I could feel. I lifted the hood and saw that the fan was wobbling so bad it was shaking the car. Yikes.

I pulled the fuse, so suffice it to say that I won't be driving the car in any really hot weather until I put in a new fan. I should have pulled one from my mom's parts car while I was visiting two weeks ago, but I didn't get around to it.

Anyway, there's the story for future reference.

I had a similar problem. It's suprising that just the fan can make the car vibrate so much!

If it's the fan on the drivers side, thats no problem to replace, but the other one's a pain trying to get it out.

Instead of pulling the fuse, can you just disconnect that fan - since both fans have their own electrical connector? The passenger side fan should come out fairly easily once the upper radiator hose is removed.
