Possible Resonator Problems???
Went up to my dad's today on Lopez Island. While cruising around some of the winding roads, I noticed a rattle at 1100-1300 rpms, accelerating lightly.
I have searched the site and concluded the most likely problem is the resonator. I don't think its the transmission, I'm not having any problems shifting or grinding. Has anyone else had this problem in the NW? Is there something else it could be? If you need more info, let me know. Thanks Harold

Probably either the resonator or a loose/rattling heat shield. You may want to take a look under the car and bang on the exhaust until you find the rattle. I've had rocks in the heat shields cause horrible rattling.

Yeah, be sure to check the heat shielding before you rip out the resonator. I was only able to find the rattle in mine by having someone rev the motor while I was under the car.

Well, a word to the wise. Had the same problem and took the car to the dealer in Yakima, who diagnosed the noise to be heat shields. Payed big bucks to have them replaced, and lo and behold, same noise. Returned to dealer and he said, oh yeah, could be resonators. Had local exhaust shop replace resonators for not much $.
lesson: 1) cant trust dealer? 2) fix inexpensive stuff first and move on.. |
