Cool it Rob.

When you 1st came onto this forum, you were the first person to get on my ingnore list.

Since then, we have seen another side of you and I am happy to consider you as one of the family. Don't let this jerk get to you, he is only a troll. Just ignore him and get on with your life. If he is a real man, he will come back to this forum as you did and show his real worth.

Well said, Andy.

Again, to get back to the original topic, if more problem threads were deleted from the start, then it would get to a point where there really wouldn't even be a need to ban anybody.

I'm sure there may be exceptions, like if someone was a true troll and only out to cause trouble. In that case, after the moderator had reprimanded them several times (in private) because they kept deleting their posts, then the moderator would ban them. But if their posts were being deleted before anyone could read them or fight back, the trolls wouldn't want to stick around anyway.

Good post Andy, and thanks.

For the record though, no I did not post in the Chicano thread, I posted "i'm having a good day and this needed to be said", and I typed a big response as to if ANYONE is an idiot, it's the guy who can't spell, doesn't know what a shift key is, and calls people names without any reason.

I guess the mods thought my response was too 'awesome' and didn't want poor DAMN to commit suicide after I massacred any shred of self esteem he had, so they had to delete it.

Your post was, for the most part, okay. I can understand your reaction to being called an idiot - the guy was really brutal about it. His rant was nothing short of insane. Somebody posts their times from a 1/4 mile session, and he attacks them personally? What the hell is that all about?

But I think the inappropriate parts of your post included calling DamN an 'inbred hick' of some kind. Sure, the guy called you names. His post was way out of line. But two wrongs don't make a right - calling him names back won't win your argument with him, and it won't win us over, either.

While you are still on my ignore list (I admire Andy for his forgive and forget attitude... You're a better man than I, Andy.) when people quote you, and I do read your stuff (took me a while to come up with that word) I still feel the anger and lack of confidence of youth in most of what I read. You still haven't learned to listen to how you are being heard. Yes I did find his post hard to read and almost as opinionated as me. Offensive? Yes. New to the board and unfamiliar with the family type attitude? Yes. Ignored.... ? Not yet but keep it up and I'll get to add a third to my ignore list... not that anyone cares who's on my ignore list... I'm just saying... that in some ways .... I'm...... agreeing ......with.... Rob...?

What the Hell is happening here???

Another Angle

Another important angle on this is that justice should be seen to be done as it is at present, rather than be practiced behind closed doors. The moderators have absolute power and quite correctly their current policy is one of disclosure and is to be commended.

Surely any outsider viewing threads must quickly become aware that the obnoxious are quickly clobbered by the majority. This should positively illustrate the true character of those participating as well as their expectations and code of ethics. The place is self policing as is illustrated by this excellent thread.

In point of fact, I the oldest posting and probably the most likely prude here, have found the contentious threads rather amusing. We have had one very positive outcome as Rob has illustrated and I am very pleased that he is still with us. However would he be if his early threads had been killed stone dead at inception ?

Trevor.

P. S. Rob you have slipped a bit. Please do not prove me wrong or I will have your guts for garters mate ! THINK and use the " preview reply " button.

Just outta curiosity Trevor, if I had come to these boards (before I had 'redeemed' myself) and called you a f*cking idiot....

how would you have responded?

The reason I ask is that it's one thing to give excellent advice (as you did), but it's something else when you're dead bang in the middle of something.

- Rob (just respectfully asking)

EXCELLENT advice...ohhyesss. Can't tell you how many rants I've typed, just to read them and think....nahhhh...that's either really dumb or just throwing gas on a fire this site doesn't need.

You know, trolls CRAVE reaction - why else be a troll? And the hotter and meaner and righteous you get, the more they LOVE it...

House OF Spades.

Good on you Rob you have again exhibited the character I have admire in you. You call a spade a spade regardless of what people think and that is fine.

However you WERE inclined to abuse other shovellers, all be it shovellers of ****, out of hand and that was not intelligent shovelling. It is possible to hit back at abuse in an intelligent fashion which can deliver a much more powerful and lasting blow. I felt you were again getting close to the mark in this thread.

Quote ̉ - if I had come to these boards (before I had 'redeemed' myself) and called you a f*cking idiot how would you have responded ? "

You should know how I would have responded because I did respond to your posts before you ̉ redeemed ̉ and counselled you accordingly by PM. I have always liked you in spite of your often unfortunate projections in print. The problem for me has been to get across a message, without appearing to patronise as I have said on several occasions. This would appear to be still a problem as you are ever on guard.

Lighten up mate, Trevor *<)

Hi - sorry this is so long.

There have been many fine points in this thread. The first point I want to make is that the Moderators are not here 24/7. Many times, things are well on the way (arguments or flames) when we may check in. I try to let things handle themselves, but I have been quick to get rid of the real bad posts that I think will fuel the fire. I also don't want to delete posts without members realizing what a member or troll wrote. I deleted Robs post because I thought it did nothing but fan the flames, but I left the original post so people would see what the troll wrote. I know that Rob was only defending himself, but it had to go. There is a fine line on what should be erased and what shouldn't. We are adults here (most anyway) and should not have to be supervised all of the time.

Rob, if I have been a moderator when you first started here, I would have handled it differently, but as I think Trevor said, other moderators were here then. I too am happy that you have changed for the better. We each have our own thoughts and I have come to see this site and responsibility in a different light. You always hope that things will turn around on their own, and nothing needs to be done, but when they don't, something must be done.

Why close a thread? I found that if I closed the thread, I could stop the momentum and monitor the other threads more closely and hopefully keep the peace.

I know that sometimes you may wonder why we do things the way we do, but walk a mile in our shoes. It is not an easy job. We also want to enjoy this site and be able to relax and have fun. In order to keep this site the way we all want it to be trolls will be sacrificed and maybe a post or two of yours may be trimmed in the process, but my goal is that it will be for the good of the Order. I hope this clears things up a little. I don't want to be Big Brother!

Q: What is the difference between a Moderator and God?
A: They are just a member, but with a few more buttons to push!
