Keeping my eyes open
I MAY be looking to find a new SVX soon. I am getting married this spring and after the wedding I may be interested in a new project car. I have been looking into quite a few different cars to play with but I saw a pearly on 287 the other night and it made me remember how much fun these cars are. If I do look at getting an SVX it will need to be a west coast car. I have had too many "experiences" with east cost rust to be bothered to deal with it again.
Things to consider, I may rework the entire powertrain to something a little more modern. I am thinking a 3.0 or 3.6l. Not sure if I want to keep it some version of auto or 6mt. Body needs to be clean (near perfect) maybe just some paint fade I can deal with. I'd love to find a silver, pearly, or laguna blue. Keep your eyes open for me if you guys would. Thanks Tom |

Re: Keeping my eyes open
First Dan, now you (maybe). Everyone's coming back to the party! Next thing you know Landshark is going to buy another SVX.
It would definitely be awesome to see an SVX with a 3.6 in it.

Re: Keeping my eyes open
Tom
How are you. Seems like great minds run in the same channel. Guess you saw my post about my new purchase. Will be interested in tracking your build. Might be interested in replicating what you might do. Primarily interested in suspension upgrades but don't want to go nearly as extreme as you did on the emerald pearl. Might want a stronger top mount so I don't get the pot-hole generated hood dimple I got on the emerald, but pure hard mounts are too extreme. Keep in touch.

Re: Keeping my eyes open
My '92 Pearlie is still available. While not a West Coast car, it is a garage queen and has seen very few (less than 10) snows in its lifetime. There are no exterior signs of rust. I am the original owner.
You can get the rundown on it here. I brought it to Reading and the Dragon meet last year. I don't know yet whether I will be at this year's Reading meet.

Re: Keeping my eyes open
Thanks for the support guys but I am not looking to pick anything up for at least 6 months or so. And I can assure you if and when I do get one progress will be very slow on the projects. I am going to be remodeling our master bath, guest bath, powder room, and a full kitchen in our house in the next few years so you better believe honey will squash large amounts of cash infusion into a 20 year old car.
My budget on the car is really going to depend on what I am buying. For a rust free rolling chassis I would spend up to $2k or so depending on shipping arrangements. For a full running car I would be willing to spend quite a bit more, it really depends on what is offered/on the table at the time. I have also had second thoughts about putting another 6cyl into it. It doesn't make sense in all reality. The car is prone to under steer even with a rear bias due to the weight in front of the front axle. I would think a built 2.5 making roughly 400bhp would be a better target. Ah, what it is to dream... Who knows, if Suby is gonna make what people are calling the new SVX I may not buy an old one after all Tom |

Re: Keeping my eyes open
I hear your plight.
I just finished building a new master bath from an existing bedroom and hardwood in the second floor hall. I'm now working on new drywall and recessed lighting in the living room/dining room with hardwood floor too. This will be followed by converting the ground floor bath into a bathroom/laundry room. Last but not least (at least for Honey) a total remodel of our 45 year old kitchen. Time frame for all 6-8 months. All projects involving cars, boats, motorcycles are officially on hold until 2016. |

Re: Keeping my eyes open
Tom, you must phrase it as "if I go out and do this for me, then I will remodel the bath for you".

Re: Keeping my eyes open
I would think you could put a JDM SVX transmission and and late model turbo 4 cylinder into an SVX pretty easily.
You could use any # of old legacy ECUs, probably with minimal re-pinning of the SVX harness. Phil's memory adapter won't fit most of them but I have all the legacy ECUs and could look through them to tell you exactly which ones will and won't work with his adapter. Mine will fit in all of them but the ROM I use requires a much more expensive programmer to write it. Quote:
