Smallcar shift kit

Took mine out of my car, so I really have no need for it anymore. $25 shipped to whomever wants it!

Re: Smallcar shift kit

Is that for the stock transmission? Or the 4.44?

Not meaning to step on anyone's toes here, but.....Most will agree, the Smallcar shift kit is junk. Mine went in the dumpster.

Re: Smallcar shift kit

Does it come with a blueprint for a custom transmission mount? If so you should scan it and post it.

Re: Smallcar shift kit

The smallcar shift kit will work with any version of 4EAT used in the SVX. I have one in our 97 stock transmissioned SVX, and had one in our previous 92 with 4.44 transmission from 97 Outback. I personally liked the way it firmed the shift from 2nd to 3rd under 1/4 throttle. It is (relative to other shift firming mods, such as the Quick change, ECUtune valve body, chipped TCU etc.) easy to buy, install and bypass/remove if you dont like it.

If you do a search, you will find plenty of discussion both pro and con.

I dont personally know of anyone who has experianced transmission failure directly because of it.

I had two different chipped TCUs in the 4.44 car, as well as the resistor from SVXfiles. I had bypassed the Smallcar kit to see the difference. I liked the shift better with than without.

Re: Smallcar shift kit

I have the small car shift kit in my 92 svx.
I have it set all the way on hard, I like how shifts on hard, comfort and smoothness are not my goal..
The quicker shifts from 2nd to 3rd are worth it, even it if is a piece of junk...

This is how it shifts from 2nd to 3rd in my SVX:

ECUtune v1.5 with smallcar shift kit.

Re: Smallcar shift kit

When I get a third car in the family I will probably go with the upgraded valve body from LAN. I have put it off due to having to ship back the core and the fact the car is my daily driver. I lean toward reliability verus harder shifts but I think the valve body will improve both. I don't know a lot about the small car kit as I was scared off of it early. But I doubt it would be worse that some other options which I think can't possibly be good for long term reliability. It will clearly speed up the shifts and while some will argue that it does it in a way that may be detrimental, at least energy isn't be stored up and dumped into the tranny like you get with other options out there.
