I believe it was satin diring the earlier years with the darker color.
The lighter silver wheels were more of a matte finish when new. .

Cheers for that!, looks like I have a cracking set of light silver wheels as they are very bright and matt.
The only thing that spoils them is the last owner (muppet) had them balanced with rim weights which has left a mark where they use to be  bit of tlc and aluminium paint should short it. John
