Unhappy '92 transmission

HELP!
I am the dope that "bought" the tranny for my '92 from "nota5speed". Still no tranny or $! Talking to Feds & CA police?!???.
ANYWHO, my question is, can I use an awd tranny from a '94 in my 92? OR ANYOTHER TRANNY?

I believe the 94 fits okay. 95 and higher is a problem. Search thru the posts and you will find a thread on this subject with the "blondman".

I looked around with the search and can't find the thread I was thinking of. Someone was changing a transmission at Level 10 and it was fitting into the car fine but the wire harness was different and did not enter the tranny in the same place. Eric brought over a SVX so that a comparison could be made.

wiring nightmare

Eric had serious trouble with this.

Basically, on removal, the tranny slipped and broke the connector and cabling. It was thought they would be the same as another car, which was brought over for comparison. Trouble was the colours of the wires were all different for the different model year.

I put the internals of a '96 tranny into a '92 carcase, it worked OK, till it burned the brake band and lost 2 and top. There was a difference in the carcases, the '92 had separate output wires for the speed sensors, and I think the '96 had these in the loom/connector setup.

My guess is, if you had a '92 Workshop manual, and also the '94 update, a tranny specialist worth his/her salt would be able to see what changes were made to the looms. It's not rocket science, just make sure the ECU is getting the output signals it expects from the new set-up.

But to be honest, it is not bucket and spade simple either. If your technician is familiar with this particular tranny [go to a specialist] nothing is impossible.
