Professionally restored and modified headlights

Like many SVX owners I'd battled the yellow headlight scourge for a few years. I've used every kind of kit I can find, and while they all give you a nice new look for a month or two, none have any sort of lasting effect. I picked up a spare set of lights from sicksubie when I bought his 6MT and dropped them off with a member of the Ottawa Subaru Club who runs a headlight resto-mod company, Prolightz.

Before:

As you can see, the typical yellow haze. In addition, a nice pile of glass dust from the projector lens coming loose and chipping in it's housing. Will at Prolightz took a look at them and right away recommended at least replacing the lens, possibly doing a full retrofit with Morimoto Minis, plus a wetsand, polish, seal and coating on the headlights themselves. After opening the assemblies he determined that the lenses were screwed, as expected, but the rest was in good shape. He installed a pair of clear projector lenses, cleaned everything out, and did a full restoration job on the plastic. He also applied a Lamin-X wrap on the lights to keep them protected.

He also installed a little something I asked for...

CCFL Angel eyes. Properly done, not any of that bent window shade rod business.

For anyone interested, Will is in the Ottawa, Ontario region and does anything from top quality restoration to any customization you can imagine. While I was there he had a set of Ford motorhome headlights that he was fitting quad-HID's in. He's done numerous retrofits and mods for members of the local club.

If anyone is REALLY interested, I now have an extra set of headlights (my stock ones) that I could give Will to modify as desired, and ship to you after they're done so you don't have to take yours apart.

Will's website is prolightz.com.

Re: Professionally restored and modified headlights

that is beautifull, do the angel eyes replace the the regular halo light altogether or is it just an extra feature you can use? (while still having the regular light functioning like before)

Re: Professionally restored and modified headlights

It's an addition to the regular lighting. I'll probably re-wire things to run them as DRL's instead of my fogs as it currently is.

Re: Professionally restored and modified headlights

Around $400. I'll get the final price tomorrow when I pick them up. It may sound steep at first, but there are quite a number of hours labour in there, plus parts. The work Will does is absolutely top quality.

Very nice Chris. Do the morimoto minis also include a new shield that modifies your cutoff slightly? Can't wait to see more pics.

Re: Professionally restored and modified headlights

He didn't do a full retrofit, just installed the projector lenses from a set of Morimotos. All the functional guts are still the same. It shouldn't change the cutoff, but may allow some more light out than the cloudy stock lenses. The benefit this was is I get to keep my HID kit that I bought from OT all those years ago when he started selling them. I'll be sure to grab pics of the beam pattern once they're in.

The retrofit option was with bi-xenon true HID projectors, which would have given me HID high beams in addition to our standard high beams. Death to those who approach me. I'll ask him tonight/tomorrow how difficult the SVX headlights are to work on compared to other Subarus he's done.

Re: Professionally restored and modified headlights

And voila, installed in the car:

I have the halos plugged into the fog light connectors right now. Being a Canadian car the fog lights operate as DRL's and are on any time the engine is running and the parking brake is off. This does mean that I have no fog lights at the moment, but I never use them anyway.

Re: Professionally restored and modified headlights

I just read that glass coverage allows you to get new headlights when they become cloudy. Anyone know if this is true?

Sure is! I've got a couple small things to button up but it's basically done.

With regards to the headlights, if anyone would like something similar done let me know and I'll put you in touch with Will @ ProLightz. I now have a spare set of headlights I'd be willing to donate for a rebuild. It should be noted that this isn't cheap work. My resto-mod cost around $450 all in. It might sound expensive at first, but there are about 12-15 hours of labour into this job plus the CCFL kits and new projector lenses. Will is an absolutely top-notch guy to deal with. Instant responses to any questions and full transperency about pricing.
