500 awhp?!

losing so many times in street racin i started thinking about tuning
my guess is that the engine block can hold up to it...13 psi needed max
but would ANY other drivetrain part work with that kind of power?
is it even worth a shot? how much of it can i swap with an 02 WRX?

and btw, how does a red svx look with metallic black roof? what about black roof and spoiler and and parts of the trunk(like the silver ones)? what about red brake calipers?:P

Re: 500 awhp?!

transmission will give out under that power,
i dont know how an 02 wrx transmission will hold up under that either,
for 500awhp ur lookin at an STi transmission, new rods at least.

Re: 500 awhp?!

Pistons are the weak point in the stock motor and a 6 spd is your option. WRX with either RA gears or a PPG straight cut set would be the only way a 5 spd might last, but i doubt either differentials in it would.
Keep smoking that pipe dream. Or drop $30k. Your choice

Also, it has always been a strict rule on this forum to not discuss street racing. Perhaps you should not partake in that, and be concerned about the performance of your SVX on a track.

Oh, and, maybe it would be better to start out with a car more suitable for that type of motorsport.

Re: 500 awhp?!

Swap what WRX stuff exactly?

For 350 to the wheels you'd need:

A trans that can handle it - PPG geared 5-speed, 6-speed, or some sort of built auto. I kinda doubt a stock WRX trans would last long with much abuse.

Some kind of engine management that can deal with bigger injectors, at least the 370cc SR20DET ones. 6 of those will max out around 350-370, more with increased fuel pressure. The ECUtune stage 2 setup (370s and a Z32 MAF) is the obvious choice, but still lacks tuning for the specific car, and is therefore imperfect. 550cc injectors would be better and safer and give more headroom.

Built shortblock - 6 STi EJ257 rods should be able to handle 350 hp at least. Eagle H-beam rods can be special ordered in a set of 6 if you want something extra strong. You'd want to have some lower compression pistons made.

A turbo, or supercharger. A high compression ratio engine with big cams and a proper exhaust and intake would get you to around 300 probably. Bigger power means boost.

The engine itself is quite strong, but will have cooling issues if run at high RPMs for a long time (or something, there's an enormous thread about it around here somewhere).

An 02 wrx would have the 2.0t engine, and no engine internals (AFAIK) would swap. The 5-speed would. The turbo is too small to move enough air for a 3.3L engine. You'd need two of them, and even then there are good enough single turbos that a twin-turbo setup would be very hard to justify. Swapping the engine itself would be possible, but no one's done it and it would be kind of stupid to swap a ~200 hp engine for another ~200 hp engine. An STi engine would start to make sense, but even then... eh.

Start by clicking the "Turbo project" link in my thread and have a look at how much the pistons cost. Then if you haven't been completely knocked on your ass, do some research here on the forums, there have been several big-ish power builds in the last ~5 years or so. What you want can be done, but it demands serious amounts of research, time, effort, and cash.

i just tried to merely talk about my reasons to tune! we all have done it at some point and some keep doing it...but it's a rule not to write about it!!!...OKAY i won't
true...but i love the looks of the SVX and that's why i didn't buy an STI in the first place...

this is the answer i needed...thanks buddy
i was hoping that the wrx diffs could hold up and its tranny with small mods
but the trouble with diffs will just be too much...i'ma be tryina find a crashed STi with a 6spd...hopefully i find a good one by Xmax
it's pointless without the tranny and the diffs so i'll wait

thank y'all

what about the paint job? "how does a red svx look with metallic black roof? what about black roof and spoiler and and parts of the trunk(like the silver ones)? what about red brake calipers?:P"

I doubt it will matter in the end, as you will probably end up wrecking it. Lets just hope you don't take someone else out with you. Take it to the track.

It looks great, here is a link to Red Lightning's car domain page. He restored the body and did metallic black over red.

This almost makes me wonder what the boosty bits on the silver beast in my driveway would go for?

Re: 500 awhp?!

Oh that's right, you're an SVX owner. I should rephrase, to do it PROPERLY, have fun spending $30k on a full and proper build up of a car to attain those goals.
Let's break it down
For that much power, Hydra is the only true option, which is a couple thousand plus add another thousand or so for proper tuning
6 spd sti transmission and all related parts, new clutch, etc-$4k
proper engine build and headwork-$7k+
Right there you are at near $15k and that's with you doing all of the custom work that is needed as well as all of the engine work.
Now, if you're going to go that fast, you need to be able to handle and stop
Koni's and GC's-$1500
proper brakes that are truly capable of safely stopping you-$2k for about the only kits that have proven to work
So right there, you are looking at near $20k
That's not including your turbo or supercharger so add another $4k or more

Again, this is doing the work yourself. So have fun.
Do yourself a favor and check out the mod forums and searching before running your mouth.
Realize that even 350 whp is over 475-500 crank hp with an MT

Re: 500 awhp?!

if you really want to spend the money and really want that much power there is one option i considered. dropping a northstar v8 in the back seat, since it's fwd use axle for one wheel to power rear diff and the other to the front. they come with 300hp stock and are capable of a lot more. only reason i considered it was when i had a totalled caddy with a good engine and had seen my buddys rock crawler. apparently it's a new craze with them because the northstar is really light pretty small and it eliminates the need for a transfer case or center differential. i actually measured the back seat and trunk area. would take lots of fab work but would fit rather easily. if you are going to spend the money might as well make a mid engine awd beast.
