Re: SVX interior space vs others...

.

According to the information on the original window sticker of my 1992 pearlie, the SVX was listed as a sub-compact

Look at the very bottom of the sticker, to the right of the gas mileage ratings.

That's interesting they list it as a 1992 Subaru Alcyone SVX AWD. I didn't think they used that name at all in the US.

300zx had HICAS 4ws as an option. I think a decent number of them actually came with it.

The american SVX had passive 4 wheel steering, not active like the 300zx. Really just a suspension trick.

Re: SVX interior space vs others...

Considering that the listings on that sticker under SUBCOMPACT are 0, 0, 0, 0, and NOT AVAILABLE, SUBCOMPACT could easily be a default value for that location, having as much meaning as those zeroes - none. It's hard to believe that by any definition, legal, magazine, or personal, is an SVX a subcompact car; park it next to a Metro, Aveo, or Yaris and tell me otherwise.

Re: SVX interior space vs others...

Seems the EPA has some twisted way of categorizing cars.

<1992 Cars>

Metro, Festiva, Justy, Tercel... SVX. Seems a little crazy. The not-exactly-a-Metro Camaro fits in there, as well.

This comes up a lil' short of making sense.

Re: SVX interior space vs others...

Forget size, it burns me that I pay more for registration (tags) than my Volvo wagon because of weight, and talk about difference in interior room. Saying that, the SVX is one of the most solid and comfortable cars my 6'-4" body has experienced. Save the compact subcompact classifications for the bland people haulers.

+1 here for comfort... the SVX is the only car I want to ride in period... and I might add that the SVX also can carry an astonishing amount of luggage-cargo-etc!

I wish we did our registration by weight here, same for tolls. When I ride on the turnpike it pisses me off to no end that I need to pay nearly 20 cents per mile to ride my bike on it, same as an Excursion. Maybe I should just drag an anchor behind me to get my money's worth.

Ben, I love the anchor image on your bike and, Keith, people are amazed when I unload a set of 4 wheels and tires, or my 6 foot surf fishing rods (broken down 12 foot 2 piece). This car has real functional room!

Re: SVX interior space vs others...

EPA does it by interior volume. Which is why the SVX is a subcompact.

BTW, John's title is a "forgery".
As for SVX interior space, I think it can fit plenty

I've had the laguna fully loaded like that about 4 times.
