If it was this easy and cheap everyone would be turboed... I'll offer a real kit when we get ours done, with a lower end less expensive set up or set up similar to what superru and I are doing to our cars this summer. Price to come...

Re: You can now have a 485whp SVX for less than $2000

Keep in mind, even if this kit has everything included, running boost to an EG33 is very risky on a stock motor. 10:1 stock compression means that you already have to run 92 octane. Raising the compression in the cylinders could very likely cause many problems. I would think that detonation could occur with very little boost from a turbo (SPECULATION).

So, you would first have to rebuild your engine (and if you are going to turbo, getting it ready would not be cheap). New pistons (to lower the compression), bearings, seals, miscellanious parts, and machine work. 2000 dollars AT LEAST. If you are already going to spend that kind of money, why get a cheap turbo kit? Seems kind of silly to me, i guess...

Stock compression is 10:1. That is why inside your fuel door it says you must run premium gasoline.

Re: You can now have a 485whp SVX for less than $2000

This is crap. Probably over 50% of the SVX's on the road today, that haven't had a top end rebuild, have head gasket issues, not to mention cooling issues. If you want to add 100 hp, that will be usable reliably on a daily basis, you need to think about spending a 5 figure number on your engine.

All of our cars are at least 13 years old and many have over 100,000 miles. They are not 2 yr old WRX's with 50,000 miles that were engineered with turbocharging in mind, and have all the required ancillary systems, so that you just bolt on a larger turbo, or a higher pressure wastegate, or a bigger downpipe, or just put in a chip that controls to to a higher boost pressure, or whatever to grab an extra 100hp. Getting 100 hp additional on an SVX requires patience and commitment, both from yourself and your wallet.

This is a very correct appraisal and is right on the money.

The other side of the coin [money, again ] is swept volume. Because the SVX engine is 3.3 litres, then broadly speaking it is more than one and a half times bigger than the 2.0 litre Sti rally engine. In theory and only in theory it will be one and a half times easier to extract 300 hp from a 3.3 liter SVX engine than from a 2.0 litre WRX engine.

Because you have to change it from an NA engine to a blown engine this theory does not hold water.

With the SVX engine there is no easy or cheap way to high horsepower.

Joe

Re: You can now have a 485whp SVX for less than $2000

Phast SVX, Phil has run 6 psi on a standard engine for a couple of years. Now puts 12 psi. through it, just using a Mega-squirt and E85.

Same old engine. The standard engine can take quite a bit of blow. A turbo is eaiser on the engine, than a Supercharger, as it does not push boost at the same low rpm that the PD blower does, so low speed detonation is not the same problem.

Harvey.
