Parking lights stay on

92 LSL
I came home today, parked shut the car off.
I was in the driveway working on another vehicle and I looked over and noticed my parking lights were on. I double checked the ignition, and it was off... took the key out of the ignition, pressed the park lights button. When I pushed the button the dash lights went out, but the parking lights stayed on. I tried the security button, and I ended up disconnecting the neg terminal on the battery. The tail lights are lit when the parking lights are on.
Anybody ever come across this? Where should I start looking for a problem?
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

Re: Parking lights stay on

I had a similar problem with a Ford Falcon many years ago except that the parking lights used to come on whenever I used the brake peddle (along with the brake lights). Had it inspected by various auto electricians all of whom said it was some relay that would cost a small fortune to replace. My father and I decided to have a play one afternoon (after a few beers) and long story short, it turned out to be a faulty tail light bulb that was short circuiting on itself. 50c later problem was fixed.

I'd suggest pulling the parking light bulbs one by one and see if it magically corrects itself.

Re: Parking lights stay on

I don't know why I didn't think about it before, but I bet it is most likely a stuck relay. Time to consult the good ole wiring diagram.

Re: Parking lights stay on

According to the wiring diagram, the US model has a circuit involving the security module, connected in parallel with the parking light switch. I gather this is intended to bring on the lights in the event of a security breach, in which case this circuit is a prime suspect and should be investigated.

Re: Parking lights stay on

Check all of the tail light bulbs, I had this happen just this summer. Yank them all and re-install them. The contacts are spring loaded give them a light tug to insure a proper connection.

Yup, the switch is off. I did notice after I reconnect the battery, when I am ready to start the car, the sucurity button light is illuminated. Once I push the switch on and off again it goes out, but the park lights are still on. I don't use any alarm system, although I guess the factory system is still active. I have no remote, nor have I ever even looked into using it. I haven't actually tried anything to fix the problem... not enough time, and now its raining.
Charlie,
Do you live in condos right off rt.5 +150 with a green svx?
