Couple of problems I need help with

First I have a 96 with no power light, but all of a sudden my AT oil temp gauge has started flashing 16 times on each start up?? Don't know what this means. This started last week. Then yesterday my CEL came on. I had my son check it out with his OBD2 scanner and he found nothing except one error message "Catalyst inefficient bank one P0420" but no error codes to work with.
Can anyone help identify the problem....and solution. The car seems to be running great, not problems at all, the CEL has been taken care of but still the 16 flashes. One a whim I changed out the resister by the battery since I had an extra sitting around, but no change. Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing that maybe on the 96 and 97 years, the AT oil temp light flashes to signify a code instead of on the earlier models it is the power light that flashes also 16 times on start up to signify a transmission code.

But we could not find any codes when we did the OBD2 scan? How do I did out what the 16 flashes mean?

Re: Couple of problems I need help with

Just did the "how to Check Transmission (TCU) Error Codes) and it came up with error 24 Duty solenoid C...now off to see what this means...hope it's not a major thing.

Re: Couple of problems I need help with

Sorry to be talking to myself...a habit when I get stressed, like now. I have found the code and problem. Now I can not find a single thread on the subject using the search does not help nor nor Subaru parts , just can't find a thing.
Can anyone tell me if this is an easy fix for a mechanic, how much the part is or part number or any info would be great. All I've found is that it is at the rear end of he tranny..nothing more, thanks

Re: Couple of problems I need help with

Many have had this problem including myself. There should be quite a few topics on the subject.

Duty solenoid C is in the extension housing of the transmission. Replacement doesn't require dropping the transmission and the part is only like ~$80.
I've had an indy shop quote me $150 for labor and the dealership quoted me ~$450.

1 31942AA090 VALVE AY TRANSFER CL @ $78.87/ea
2 31954AA071 GASKET TRANSFER VALV @ $2.32/ea
1 31337AA120 GASKET TRANS CASE RE @ $3.73/ea

^ what I ordered from subaruparts.com when I did the deed myself.

Re: Couple of problems I need help with

Thanks a lot, this is exactly what I needed. I know there are subjects on this in other threads, but he search feature is touchy. I tried every combo I could think of...thanks again.
