Which is the best synthetic gearbox oil?

Although the sticker on my SVX states that the ATF oil was changed at 64531 Kilometres (81.5 K at the moment) and looks very clean and does not smell horrible I would like to know if there is a synthetic automatic box oil that can be used in the early JDM models which may help prevent potential problems.

Re: Which is the best synthetic gearbox oil?

I have been very happy with BG Products full synthetic ATF for years now.

I've always heard good things about Redline synthetic gear oils, as well... I would think they would have some synthetic ATF, as well.

Thanks, do you think this may extend the life of the gearbox? I'm also thinking of changing to a synthetic oil for the engine is there a specific viscosity needed.
Good to have contact with another U.K. owner

Amsoil... Plain and simple the best ATF you can get IMHO... pricey, yes but well worth it

Yes the legnum owners swear by Amsoil for the legnums auto box.
This may sound like a typical newbie question but is there any difference between the JDM box and the U.S. one that would alter the type of oil required

Re: Which is the best synthetic gearbox oil?

just the difference in the rear drive mechanism. There is no need to use a different oil in either

Re: Which is the best synthetic gearbox oil?

Just about to order some ATF fully synthetic oil on the basis that everyone on the Legnum owners site swear by Amsoil for the rather troublesome autobox in those cars I'm opting for Amsoil just to clarify it does require about 10 litres doesn't it?
Gulp just bought 10 litres at an eye watering price of £130 it better be good!
