Fiberglass intakes
Just thought I would share what I have been working on here now that I no longer need a MAF... Pics will be put up tonight when I get home from work.. Lets just say that foam pool noodles have now found a new use

Re: Fiberglass intakes
I've been thinking about this for some time now. I can't wait to see what you come up with. It's got to be better than metal for thermal protection. I believe acetone will eat away pool noodles without harming a fiberglass mold.

Re: Fiberglass intakes
I always assumed that fiberglass wouldn't make a good intake, seeing as how it is an insulator. But I guess people do make carbon fiber ones?

Re: Fiberglass intakes
ABS plastic would be ideal, but how can you work with that DIY.

Re: Fiberglass intakes
are you running this from an intercooler or just have 2 separate intakes?

Re: Fiberglass intakes
How are you going to run this dual setup without 2 MAF's?
Is this an option only for Hydra'd SVX's?

Re: Fiberglass intakes
hydra can read from a MAP sensor instead of a MAF, eliminating the need for that pesky MAF. I had a hydra on my old widebody GC8 and ran a MAP instead.
Intake is turning out great... how do u get the pool noodle out after?

Re: Fiberglass intakes
I will cut it on each side with a dremel and then smooth out the inside as much as possible before epoxying it back together

Re: Fiberglass intakes
Curious...can you just melt out the 'pool noodle' afterwards? A lot of people making one-off parts use a foam core, form the composite part around it w/epoxy and fiberglass, then melt out the foam core w/acetone or similar solvents. This way you'd have a very strong part with no seams to potentially fail.
