how to remove the large trim under the steering wheel

hello everyone
Im in interested to find out how I can remove the trim under the steering wheel, it has a few things wired up to it like summer/winter wiper switch and mirror switch. it's been taken off before and it's a little broken, a mate of mine has taken it off for me before, I just wouldn't mind some instructions because I really don't wanna break it any further, I also know there's a ,eta plate behind the piece of trim

Some help would be grateful, thanks jordan

Prise out the switches either side and there should be a metal bracket screw behind one or both of them. Then if you put your finger in the holes and reach up and towards the steering column, there is a plastic clip sticking through a metal hole.

Once you've popped those out it should come off easy. If it's been off before then most likely some of the clips with be broken or not engaged properly so it will come off even easier.

Re: how to remove the large trim under the steering wheel

On the US models there are mounting bolts/nuts (if I remember correctly 10mm nuts) behind the coin holder and the mirror adjustment switch. Also, there is a bolt/nut accessed from below close to the door side. Then there should be on of those plastic screw mounts close to the middle again accessed from the underside.

Re: how to remove the large trim under the steering wheel

If you are talking about the plastic trim under the steering wheel, like you said, it has screws holding it on.
If you are talking about the piece under the dash, it has bolts behind coin thing and on the other side behind "something" they both just pry out and 10 mm socket. the bottom has "push in" holders.

Significant Technical Input
Re: how to remove the large trim under the steering wheel

I think they were screws on both my cars...sounds like maybe sometimes they used screws and sometimes they used bolts...in any event they are there behind the coin holder and mirror switch which you pry out to get to.

I suppose in essence they are actually all screws.

They look like a bolt but they do screw in and out to fasten in or take out without a nut on the back of them!

They just looked like a bolt to me, but hey, I am from the bailing wire era!
