Oil leak in the front of the engine

I did a search on here and somebody said something about camshaft gaskets being prone to leakage. I couldn't find any how-to's on replacing them, could somebody give me some pointers and parts numbers? I also surprisingly couldn't find a how-to on valve cover gasket replacements either. Would the engine need pulled for this/these?

Hello, no you dont have to pull the engine for either job. The drivers side valve cover is a little tricky (remove battery etc). Make sure you dont knock the new gaskets off when you install the covers. Do the valve covers first because when they are leaking oil is everywhere. I did mine and engine is now bone dry. I still have my original cam seals in mine at 205,000 miles. Get all your gaskets at subaru dealer (get all the gaskets for each cover!) Also make sure you get the sealing washers for all the 16 bolts. Have fun!

How many gaskets are there per head? I'm also having trouble finding them on subaruparts.com

gaskets

Each valve cover requires three seperate gaskets.
For the valve cover washers/sealing gaskets, go to Advance Autoparts and buy two sets of Felpro Subaru GL valve cover gaskets. They'll set you back $9 each and you'll get something like 24 of the washers in the deal. You can throw away the actual gaskets - all you need from the package is the washers. If you try buying the washers from Subaruparts, they list for over $3 each and end up still costing you $2.40 or so after discount.
