looks like it's the trans-axle, my front differential, my cv-joint, possibly my transmission being gone now, the transmission mounts where broken in the back. This could easily be like 2-3 grand just so it could run ok. That doesn't mean run like it should, that just means ok. So pretty much I think I'm really screwed lol.

I can sell you all of that, sans transmission (which it sounds like you won't need, if I am getting the proper feel for this problem.

Transaxle w/cv joint, 40 bucks. Front diff for 100. Tranny mounts new aren't all that expensive. Get to wrenchin', sir!

Alternately, I could buy the car from you.

Oh, and is anyone else not getting a good feeling from this shop? How to you grenade your front diff and a CV joint at the same time? I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but one should act like a fuse for the other, if you get my meaning.

its a horrible ordeal. If you wanted to buy the car from me, then I would actually consider selling it, how much is a different story. I'm looking for a new tranny now, and we'll see what I can find.

Hey bud, hang in there.

It always looks darkest after the diagnosis, step away for a bit, and consider your options.

Not sounds like a good time to to a 4.44 - 4.11 conversion, read up on it here. You can get the transmission out of an outback, (I paid about 650 for the tranny and rear diff).

What makes you think you need a new transmission?

just chit chat with the mechanic I took it too.
He's a family friend and not one to usually mess with me.
I would seriously consider selling it though.
It's been far more work than I have the money for.
I'm a 19 year old college student, I love the car, but priorities.
This was fun, but the fantasy is kinda ending

Let me know how much you'd like for it, send me a PM when you get a chance.

I have had the clunking sound before.. well more grinding/clunking and it was a CV joint. It could happen that everything went bad.. but I don't hear anything suggesting the transmission is bad.

I am concerned, like nextse7en, that someone would essentially tell you "everything" is wrong with your car. If your mechanic knowledge is lacking, like mine, please LISTEN to the guys here. They can really help you diagnose your problem.

I no longer trust local mechanics - no matter how nice they may seem because it seems they think a car is a car is a car. Take some time to investigate your problem with the people here. It's tougher because they can't be there with you but if you want to fix what's actually broken, you'll need the technical advice you can get here. Unless you really want to just spend the money you don't have.

A first stop might be to give Tom (svxfiles) a call : http://www.svxfiles.com/

When I have a problem, I call just about everyone I know to try and diagnose my issue.

Don't give up prematurely on your car when you haven't confirmed your problem with members here. I am in no way made of money but I have managed to take care of my SVX on a college student's salary + some elbow grease. Loving the SVX means learning about it. (and slowly becoming a mechanic yourself)

Most importantly, don't underestimate your own skill. If you can learn, you can fix.
