After MAF installed

I just put a used supposedly working maf in my car after getting code #23 and the car running rough and stalling out. Well it started up fine but then promply stalled out again after a few seconds or so. A friend suggested unplugging the negative side of the battery for a minute and then trying it. This didn't work either. Is they're anything else I need to do or can try? I am also getting both oxygen sensor codes as well but have never had them stall the car out. One is fairly new as well. Any help appreciated.

Mike

try resetting the codes? I replaced my MAF and O2 sensors, it fixed the rough running but the codes stuck around

Thanks for the reply. As soon as I start the engine the check engine light stays on so I don't think it will erase. I'm going to hook it up and try it though.

The ECU needs to be unplugged for at least 30-45 minutes to completely erase everything. After that, reconnect the terminal (or ECU fuse). Then you need to start the car and wait 10 minutes or until it's warm (Don't rev it or take it out of park). Then shut the car off. Then you can drive it.

Manarius, what exactly do I disconnect. The battery or a fuse. Sorry I am so uneducated on this. Thanks greatly for the help. I can't even get to work now. I'm going to disconnect the battery now.

take the negative battery terminal off and leave it off it uses a 10 mm nut while the terminal is off turn the ignition on to make sure that the ecu is drained of all power even stored power hope this helps ps make sure ignition is off when you reconnect the terminal

I had the battery disconnected for over 45 mins. I restarted the car. It did not stall out but kept emitting smoke out the back and the fuel smell was still in the air. The engine stayed on but went from close to stalling out to almost revving itself. I didn't apply any gas pedal and kept it in park. After 3 mins I shut it off. Engine was going up and down the whole time. When I received this used MAF today they're was a lot of dust on the inside of the container. I wonder if it doesn't need a cleaning. Not sure what to think now.

Sounds like your new MAF may be shot too. That's what my car did when the MAF was broken and I reset the ECU.
