6 mt

I've done a search but am still a bit confused over doing a manual tranny conversion. The How To seems a little out of date as Tom seems to have solved a few problems with brake kit and drive shafts.

If I am looking at the STI 6MT what is the most current info?

Buy Tom's kit.... I think it is 800 but possible a bit more for the 6mt. Other than that there have been no major "break-throughs" in MT swaps that I have heard of.

Yeah for a 6spd you do not need to extend the drive shaft you use the stock one. You will need Tom's Kit, Tranny, R180 Diff and Axles, Clutch Master cylinder, Slave Cylinder... umm I think thats about it...

Good luck on your endeavor...

How do you find the highway mileage with the 6 mt compared to the auto?

Any comments on the shifter and clutch feel?

I don't have any numbers to talk about regarding fuel mileage... how about went to OT and back on one tank???

Shifter and clutch are great, YT short shifter is magic, and the kit is perfect. I do not really remember my Auto that much... besides the fact that it died...

The bestest thing about the 6 speed, is the 35F/65R torque split!!!!!!!!!

Yes, bestest is a real word!

YT short shifter? Presume that's a brand name?

YT stands for Young Tom, as in TomsSVX.
He has been making a number of 5, and 6 speed, kits including trans mounts, shift linkage, pedal assemblies, and, when needed, custom driveshafts.
I have seen, and used his kits, and would recommend it/them!

Why not just say YES?

YT is a name brand

the short shifter is a cut and welded stock shifter which is indeed about an inch and a half shorter.. Not only does it reduce shifter throw but it just fits in the car better as the stock 6mt shifter and even aftermarket shifters are just too tall for the coupe style interior. I have made 4 of these thus far and 4 of them are in 4 of the 7 6mt's on the network... Needless to say, i have been around the block when it comes to the 6mt

Tom

P.S. I am working on a DCCD controller that costs A LOT less than others and should work well.... But more on that after I get it installed... Just finished putting it together today
