transmission question

ok so my tanny is totally on the way out, so i have been thinking of switching over to a standard now my question is options, what do i need to know and look for in a compatable transmission and are there other makes and models or brands aka nissan that fit the svx? i have a 92 even though i don't think that makes a difference?

You can make just about any of the Subaru manual trannies fit. You do have to update the rear differential for any tranny other than the WRX 5MT.

Subaru trannies are just fine when they don't have sucky gear ratios.

For drag racing a 4.11 5MT
For high speed crusing a 3.90 WRX 5MT
For durability an STi 6MT

I wish I knew there was an STi that went through the MPI auction a couple weeks ago. It sold for $4400. Don't know what was wrong with it though.
