Ideas needed! How to make a 1966 Chevelle AWD
I realize this is Subaru grounds, but I know the diversity of people and interests here might mean that someone could have an idea
I keep having the idea that it needs to be AWD to go with the Jag V12, but I keep sticking on the front end, I figure that I need to use front suspension from a fullsize AWD or FWD car, the axles and diff can be dealt with later, I'd like to have something that handeles well and may use air suspension, modified MustangII front ends are fairly common, but they don't have drive axle provisions

The jaguar uses a 4l80e transmission with a different bellhousing, so I'd like to use an AWD transfer case from a GM product, although I hacn't located a GM vehicle that is AWD and uses that box, they all seem to use the 700r4/4l60(e), but adaptors are availible.
I'm going to check out some Cadillacs in the junk yard for the front axle parts, typhoon might work too, I'd like to build performance suspension for it as well, so whatever I go with needs to be able to use aftermarket components. I just found that the only difference between a jag v12 53.L-6.0L is the stroke

You will have to 'channel' the body to keep it from being too high, and looking like a miscarrage.. I put a 41 chevy cab on a 72 Jeep cj5, cut the cab and moved it to the back of the jeep frame, filled in the space with 20 guage tin. and braces.Channeled it, so it was shorter than the jeep started out, but still had the Jeep ground clearance. I called it a 'Cheep'. It was an interesting toy!! I sold it back to the guy I bought it from. Have MIG, Will travel! Jerry

I'm not sure that would save me any work, in that case I'd need to rework the rear end and modify the body mounting system, I believe the Chevelle has 4 link rear suspension from the factory and the aftermarket has bolt on parts to beef it up. If I converted the front end to driving wheels then the rest is fairly simple.

You can 'clip' the frame and use the center section of the chevelle. Just use the front section of frame from the S-10.. We cut the frames on old stuff and put chevelle clips under anything from the 30's or 40's. It would solve the front wheel drive prob, without making it too high. I have an 80 Aspen clip under my 47, have put the 67 chevelle under a 48 chevy coupe, and a trans am clip under a 48 chevy sedan delivery, all have been ont the road for 18 years or more, and work fine!
