If empty beer bottles represent progress then why aren't we done yet?

Congrats, Napa!
How big is your house? Arces? Wanna share how much do you pay for? The pool looks nice.

14 acres, and I don't know how much was paid for it 125 years ago my great grandfather built the house in the thirties and it was added on to in the '60s cheaply, we are repairing years of neglect now. Thanks on the pool
Oh yeah, house is 1000 square feet, but feels much bigger, will have plenty of usable space and not much wasted.

Why are you taking such young tar paper off for? Seriously why are you removing it unless you're refinishing the wood which I would doubt would be in usable condition if tar paper was glued to it and then more floors put on top. My kitchen had 6 layers of flooring on it. On the bottom was an art deco armstrong flooring from the 30s. In PERFECT shape, except for the nail holes through it to put the luan overtop.

Be careful, a lot of that old tarry flooring has asbestos in it. Doug

We be all masked up and yeah, the wood floors under neath are the goal! 4-5 years ago the local earthquake was almost right underneath it and it didn't so much as get a hairline crack, this thing is built like a tank

Napa, soak it in some acitone, don't smoke around it and go to town. Usually works (dep on the glue) but it is a slow process as it evaporates quick.

Argh, you're so lucky! One of my dreams is for some crazy old rich relative I never met to die and leave me an old fixer-upper house to restore one room at a time. Unfortunately I have an abundance of crazy relatives and a serious lack of rich ones.
As it is, I have to settle for being victorious in my battle against mildew and soap scum in my 70 year old apartment bathtub. |

Wow......
I bet you've put quite a few man hours into this project and have many more to go yet. As a building inspector, I'm glad to hear that you've updated all the mechanicals, most importantly the electric and plumbing. You've not mentioned the septic and I'm sure if it's not working properly you'll fix that as well. I'm also an electrical contractor and I smiled when I saw the quad in what appears to be the living room. NOt many people think to do that when they know that's where their main electrical draw will be for TV's and such. Did you run home runs for your PC locations? Cat 5? ANy main service surge protection? The pool is awesome and looks fabulous. One thing about existing buildings is the landscape is there already and mature. No waiting for the asthetics. Nice job.....post more as you progress.
