I found a leak (which I believe is coming from my water pump. After I took off the right side timing belt cover to take a closer look...I saw that my entire belt was also torn to shreds (by now you probably realize my SVX doesn't run anymore). Either way. I decided that obviously I need to replace my belt. I managed to get all the bolts/pulleys off....except the crank pulley (main one). I'm wondering if anyone has done this...and if so...did they have any tricks on how to get the bolt loose on it. I can't get the engine to stop turning...so getting the bolt off has proved very difficult.

Thanks,
Ryan

This may cause some folks to flinch but I'll give you my suggestion anyway.

First, I've never done a belt on an SVX so you can take that for what it is worth. However, what I have tried in the past is to take the remains of the timing belt, run it over the teeth on the pulley and then put a pipe wrench over that. This should protect the teeth on the pulley. I think there is a "special" tool to grab the teeth on the fly wheel at some point, which would be the "professional" way to do it. Like I said, I've never done an SVX so someone else may know of a way to block the engine.

G'luck.

JP
