The costliest SUBARU I have ever seen!!!!

Hi all,

Today I came across one of the costliest subaru. It's a Legacy 2.5GT SpecB edition and is #283 among 500 produced under the badge SpecB. The retail price is listed as $45,679 at Stevens creek Subaru. But the interior is simply superb . Reminds me of MB interior .

From a long time I am looking for a full size sedan from Subaru .

Is the steering wheel on the right side, because I thought the Spec B was only made in Japan as well as imported to Australia. If not than, wow.

No, its on left side only and they made only 500 in number for USA (may be for canada too I am not sure).

I have seen one of those cars on Discovery Channel (of course). This is a mean machine, even competing Ferraris in 0-60 runs.

Pavan,

The Legacy 2.5GT Spec B has an MSRP of around $35,500. Here's one for sale at a dealer in VA just 1 hour or so from my house:

Sounds like Stevens Creek Subaru has the infamous SoCal evil-dealer mark-up going on!

this car is $8,000 over the cost of a regular LGT for Nav, Bilstein shocks, aluminum suspension bits, 18" wheels, brick red leather, special floor mats, "WRX" style pedals, and special silver paint. no power increase.

i guess it could be argued that its a decent deal, but i'll put that $8000 to better use with my regular 'ol LGT.

Hi,

I dont know why the price is tht much, but I am sure that the dealer asking price is marked as $45,6xx. The pics in your link are same as the car I have seen. But I am sure the price label is not at $35,xxx.

I have gone thru the price label and its like follows-
Retail Price - $35,xxx (this is in small letters)
charges for something - $9,999 (this is printed in special font)
Dealer asking price - $45,xxx (this is printed in large big, bold font) along with #283/500

I wonder if anyone has come across this same priced car .

of course we can have a regular 2.5GT legacy and have fun on it, but many of the luxury people look for a high price tag and more luxury features while buying a car. Thats the case with Acura and Lexus (in my opinion). Just they want that luxury tag and high price for their status . Maybe Subaru is also trying to aim at those "people" .

Well they can be targetting those people, but they also can be targeting car collectors, Subaru fanatics with a family or someone who wants a tuner transformed car which isn't in the Porsche or Farrari pricerange.

I just wish Subaru would just make a turbocharged H6 Legacy most people have been spreading rumors about so far, now that would be something me as well as others would be up to 45k for. It would also make a more ideal car for the Japanese and US GT racing.

there is no additional luxury features over a LGT Limited, just badging, bling items, standard navigation, and suspension- in fact, it will probably ride "less luxuriously" due to the suspension and 18" wheels.

that dealer is price gouging due to the limited number (500) of this special edition.

Well, I'm back into my usual state of confusion

I checked the Germany Subaru web site just for the heck of it, and don't see the 2.5 SpecB offered...
we got only the Legacy Limousine (sedan) or Kombi (wagon) offered in the 3.0R Spec.B

6-speed manual sedan starts at 43,000 euro or about $50,456 US
automatic sedan starts at 44,500 euro or about $52,216 US

6-speed manual wagon starts at 44,200 euro or about $51,864 US
automatic wagon starts at 45,700 euro or about $53,624 US

I found a used 2005 Spec.B manual sedan with 7,500km for 32,900 euro or $38,605 US

another one, 2005 Spec.B manual sedan for 36,990 euro or $43,404 US

and a 2005 SpecB manual wagon for 39,000 euro or $45,763 US

Is this the same car or another animal over here?!

specB is the same in all the continents and countries, but i dunno about the Japanese ones...

BTW Bipa, how are you managing with the Eu currency over there? is it better than the old Deutshemark ?

Harumph! <clearing throat>

Well... the actual implementation of changing over to the Euro from the Deutschmark went pretty smoothly. The result on inflation, however, was huge. Roughly speaking, it was a 2 marks:1 euro conversion. Many stores, however, used it as an opportunity to hike up their prices. For months, newspapers were writing stories and people were sending in examples of items that had doubled in price overnight. Best example was a small hardware chain that seemed to have simply replaced "marks" with the Euro symbol but left the numbers all the same, so a hammer that had been 9 marks was now 9 euros.

I was living in Switzerland at the actual time of conversion, near the border to Austria and not too far away from Germany, too. The most obvious difference for me was that all of a sudden my favourite Swiss mall parking lot was filled with Austrian and even German cars. It used to be that the Swiss would go to Austria or Germany to shop because many things were cheaper. Now it is the other way around.

Let's just say that I go back and visit my friends in Switzerland quite a few times a year.
