why can't you do it in da hood? does smoke attract crackheads?

Thumbs up

ok i did the sea foam today. i used the big vacuum line on the side of the throttle body under the throttle body cover. i removed it from under the intake and turned it upside down and left it attached to it's port on the throttle body and just poured in the 6 ozs. of sea foam. i waited 5 minutes and DAMN what a smoke show! it smoked for at least 3 minutes before it cleared up.i also poured about 4-5 ozs in the oil and added a little to the gas too. it seems to run better now but now my pre cats are really stinkin good. gonna fix them in a couple weeks with a few pieces of pipe and a couple clamps from advanceauto.

I just sea-foamed my svx. I used the smaller of the 2 vacuum hoses on top of the throttle body. Had to pop it off and pop on the seafoam pipe pretty fast or it would stall out.

Mine didn't smoke that much. At least I was expecting a huge cloud and just got a medium sized cloud. Does that mean mine was pretty clean? I had completely cleaned the intake manifold when I put the engine in 4k miles ago.

Re: Where do I put Seafoam?

Can someone please post a picture showing the location of the correct vacuum line to suck the seafoam into?

"I use the little vacuum line under the beauty cover on the top of the throttle body."

Ok, this is what I see under that cover, is it one of these hoses?

If my pic is in the correct area, can someone please draw on it with paint and point it out the correct hose?

Re: Where do I put Seafoam?

You can use the two small hoses that connect right there on the top of the throttle body. Both are vacuum lines for the EGR.

Re: Where do I put Seafoam?

My EGR is having issues.. I get code 56 from time to time, and had a code 34 once also.
Would it still be recommended to use those lines?

Could someone please mark up a pic and circle which hose/line I need to use.
I can't tell a vacuum line from a coolant line...
I have zero idea what I am doing...to me, when I look at that pic I posted, I see like a dozen hoses..

Also, didn't I read on some thread not to use the brake booster line on the svx, that it doesn't get to all cylinders?

If everyone that has done this could post a pic of what line they used that would help.

Generally if the hose just slides on and off without any sort of clamp it's a vacuum line.
The piston motion creates the vacuum so that the direction the air flows.
Just get the stuff into your manifold with the car running, you should be ok.

Re: Where do I put Seafoam?

Why not add it to the gas? i think they suggest a full can when you fill up. Will it not get to the critical places?

Youre actually supposed to do this, along with in the oil AND in a vacuum port.

For some reason your pic wont open in Paint, so just use those two little hoses that connect right up top where the balck rubber of the intake tube meet the metal of the throttle body, right by those two huge clamps. Pull the line not from where the go into the TB, but the other side where they both connect to the steel lines on the right. These are ideal for sucking seafoam right at the opening of both of your butterfly valves.

As far as the EGR code, no it wont affect the lines like that since its merely going right into the intake and the seafoam gets nowhere near the EGR in that respect. Your code 56 may be related to the 34, but theres a dozen or more reasons your EGR can kick a code, believe me!

Re: Where do I put Seafoam?

SoCal, you mean here?

NikFu, thanks for that tip that the coolant lines have clamps.
If I see anything with a clamp on it, I wont try and pull the hose off.

Why don't they run lines in different colors?
You know like blue for wet, and black for vacuum, and white for wires...

Yes I am going to put seafoam in the gas tank and oil as directed on the bottle.
I will be doing this right before I change my oil next time.
I will be having the plugs changed at same time, car will have 195,000mi on it anyways.

Re: Where do I put Seafoam?

You are exactly right, those are what I used. You should rev your engine slightly to keep it from stalling when you put the hose in the seafoam.

Personally if I were to use it in the oil, id do two oil changes afterwards. There will still be seafoam/oil mix left in the engine after the first one, and I wouldnt run my car for long with it still in there.

Re: Where do I put Seafoam?

I am going to have my friend be on the throttle while I am feeding it seafoam.

The seafoam can says you can leave the seafoam in the crankcase (oil) for long term cleaning.

I am still going to change the oil, probably not twice, its like $50 an oil change..

Thanks for the help all.
