Heat Shields

I was wondering if I can just have my heat shields taken off? Will it mess anything up?

When I was getting a new axle put on the mechanic says he would take them off but I wanted to ask u fellas first cause most mechanics dont know alot about these cars. so yes or no...

Just be aware that parking on grass with no heat shields = fire.

Are you sure it's the heat shield(s)? Other things will make terrible noises under an SVX, i.e., resonator, cat, etc. Take it from one who knows.

I think the heat shields also help the converters heat up quicker.

Yes they are but good luck removing them as most have been rusted into place.

When I had my resonator replaced with a straight pipe on my pearlie, the muffler shop just cut the off in sections with a torch in about 2 minutes. No charge.

Just wedge some asbestos, or some other non-flammable material in there, & tighten as much as possible. Mine are still intact at 138K, & been tightened up only twice in over 4 years.

Ron (tight most of the time).

I looked at them and Im afraid if I try to tighten then they will just crap out... Kinda corroded. Anyways I also tried clamps in a few spots didnt do anything..

And see from what I notice is that on my car they only rattle when its cold, so when it heats up Im assuming that they expand and tighten things up a bit.

whats asbestos??
