What I've found works great and takes very little time is to take some fine scratch remover (I used Eagle One brand) and rub it into the lights with your fingers then buff off with a towel of choice.

Just to note A scotchbrite pad and some water do wonders until time for the scratch remover or simple buffing compound.

I used 600 grit sandpaper, then 1000 grit, then 1500. After that, I hit it with some Maquires plastic polish. They look goooood.

Brasso
Before you use sandpaper, try some Brasso. If that does not get the scratches/yellow out use some real fine grit sandpaper and then the brasso. RainX after brasso.

Bon Ami cleanser works well. I started using it after seeing a Shade Tree Mechanic show talk about it.
That will take off the yellowing, but imperfections in the lens from acid rain, chips ETC will still effect the beam pattern. I used that on my 96’ and my brothers Florida Cars with great results. Use just enough water to make a paste out of it and polish the surface. My 95’ lights were much worse so I used 2000 grit sand paper (wet sand) followed by Turtle wax (red) heavy duty rubbing compound, then 3M liquid polishing compound. That worked extremely well. When I used Liquid Glass over that they looked factory new. So good in fact now my 96’ lights now look like crap when the cars are side by side so I intend to do the same thing to them.

Here's what Eagle One fine scratch remover will do for you. Can you tell which headlight I cleaned?

I don't think Eagle One offers the exact product I use (I got mine well over 3 years ago) but the closest I could find from them is this stuff:
REFERENCE LINK Basically go to your favorite place for buying car detailing products and look for any kind of fine scratch remover and that should do the trick.

Look at the section where I buffed out my old lenses. Solvents will almost always make the problem worse. |
