power steering leak
My power steering has been whining for a while, and the other day there was a sudden and complete loss of powersteering as I was driving. The next day, the entire resevoir was emptied onto the driveway.
The dipstick on the cap is gone, a mechanic looked at it a while ago, before it went out, and thought that the stick dropped into the pump gears... I recently read that there's a common problem with the o-ring betweeen pump and resevoir, Is there a chance that this is my problem?? Or is that wishful thinking? |

Yes, that is the first thing I would check. It also allows air to get into the system which makes the system work poorly. The dip stick should have been stopped by the screen cup that is a filter that keeps snakes and allagators from getting into the resivor. Go to the "How-To Documents" and look under Steering, or Go to this linky and see the instructions on how to do it. If you have any other questions, let us or me know. I hope this is the problem.

The o-ring is not going to count for the extreme loss of fluid. It sounds like one of the hoses leaked or came off.
I fixed a leak in my high pressure PS hose and while I was changing that one I noticed the low pressure hose was barely on and ready to fall off.

unfortunately the hoses are all okay... I just need to find time to play around with it and check that o-ring
I already had the pump out, and tried giving it to NAPA auto parts to rebuild. I waitied two weeks, and every couple of days I'd go in to check on the progress, and I was repeatedly told to give it until tomorrow. When two weeks had passed I asked why it was taking so long, and the retard comes out and tells me, "oh you know what, I forgot to send it in, it's just been sitting on the shelf here for two weeks, sorry I really dropped the ball.." Naturally I was upset to hear this... I made a big scene and left. I dont think I'll be welcome there again, not that I'd ever even think about turning to that group of geniouses for car help again. So i put the busted pump back in and im just driving around without power steering |

I fixed my POS like 2 or 3 weeks ago it would completely empty like once every week and change, it turned out to be 2 hoses and my mechnic also said i have a leak in the rack and pinion... but the 2 hoses were the main problem. they are the ones that caused all the smoke and mess under the hood. From what i read and have heard from my posts, the hoses with 90degree bends usually go first.
