Engine stand

As much as I'm dreading it... and as much as I feel I'm getting in over my head, I'm going to pull the engine out of the 94, rebuild what I am later told is necessary, then throw it in the '92. If it takes me 6 months... so be it. If I'm good at anything, it's staring at a manual with a blank expression and buying stuff.

So the first question:

Are there any engine stands you guys have found to be better than others, or are they all the same?

I'm going this weekend to buy this one tomorrow. I'll take a picture this weekend and see how it works.

I have that one as well. It works great. If you want a picture, I could take one. The main thing to consider is it needs to hold more weight than the engine weighs. Better for a little over kill instead of it tipping over or something like that. Mine is great and you can move it all around without any problems.

Then that's the one I'm going to get. Thanks to both of you. Better to check than to end up with an engine on the ground.

(Pretty inexpensive too!! that's a good thing. )

Oh yeah... IF!! one of your guys find it convenient, I really would like to see a shot of the SVX engine actually on the stand. It will save me from having to stare at the cherry picker with a blank look as I figure out where to bolt up the engine.

But only if it's convenient. If not, I'll figure it out.

I have that same stand too. If you had asked a week ago I could have supplied a picture of my engine on the stand Not too hard to do - 4 bolts and it's on.

Yeah.. I wish I had thought about it.

You do realize you are the one that has inspired me into this madness.
You should be ashamed of yourself!!

I've been through this with a small block GM before. But that was on a car from the early 70's.. A lot less technical than they are now. No sensors to muck up, etc., and an aftermarket that not only spanned the galaxy but was perfected to the nanometer. This, I feel is going to be a bear.

Significant Technical Input
On the stage III thread in the mod forum you can see numerous pics of an svx engine on a stand. I think you'll need a good surface to do the initial building of the engine on in addition to the stand. The SVX block is actually two halves split down the middle so you'll need to get back to the point where you have the two halves put back together before you go back to the stand. I'm planning on doing that on one of those heavy duty rubbermaid rolling tool carts.

Off to that thread I go... That blower is nice!! I mentioned the price to my wife this evening, but she never really "replied" for me to start a dialogue. I'm just nibbling anyway. Not sure if I could handle it. I'll be lurking the new thread though.

I have three of those stands. One holds an SVX engine and one a big block Ford and one for the next project
