What's my SVX worth?

This week whilst I'm off work I shall be actively prepping my SVX for sale but am a little unsure of its value and wondered what you guys guestimate it's worth.

It's a '96 (P plate) British spec car, black with 112K miles, FSH and all the usual extras. Just had four new tyres on its 17" Fox rims, gearbox rebuilt in 2002 and rear wheel bearings in April '04. Has an alarm immobiliser and Kenwood CD/tuner.

I reckoned about £5K, does that sound fair?

It sounds right to me, but I am not in the market. Quite literally.

Autotrader has always got 8-16 cars. Currently has 9. They range from 2.5K to 8K, and 96,97,98 cars are very rare.

I know that Autotrader prices are aspirational, but your price seems realistic to me.

Thanks for that mate, I shall push for £5K as my price then.

I spent all day Monday lavishing time and elbow grease on it and it was definitely worthwhile. The old girl looks absolutely fantastic, the paint so deep and shiny that it looks like black water. Spent Tuesday on the interior cleaning the leather and will hopefully get it MoT'd today. Plan is to PX it for another car by Friday so I don't have to put another six months tax on it. Chances of achieving that are somewhere between nil and zero but it's worth a try.

Hi Monzta,
I am in similar situation. As I moved to Prague for better job and got company car I have to sell my other cars(Impreza and SVX) cause it is hard to live with three cars now and solving lincreased living expenses in Prague. I will ask aprox. 10k USD for my 1995, after finishing engine which is almost put together afer complete rebuild. My car will be near in perfect shape with rebuilt AT, engine and lot of other parts. I wish I bouht this car in this shape before.... It will be hard to say good bye to it but it is necessary:-(. I will be still member of this site because I found here a lot of interesting people who helped me a lot and I feel I have lot of common with most guys here. Anyway any SVX fan visiting Prague has bear on me:-)

Hey Petr, sorry to hear you are thinking of parting with your SVX.

DO stay a member and keep in touch. Maybe you could come over for the JAE weekend this year?

Also, a contact in Prague to call in on would be handy. I hear it's a beautiful place, and the food is good.

Joe

Hi Glenn, well i finally got rid of my SVX at the end of last month, i sold it to the trader in the end, I know i lost a little bit on it at £2000 but i think it only owed me £2100, so i can justify that for the amount of petrol i put in it at xmas!
Got a classic saab 900 at the mo, but getting a P reg TD Vectra in a few weeks (only cos it failed it's mot & it's CHEAP! lol) but dropping from 230bhp to 100bhp (yet to find ALL 100bhp!) is a bit boring to say the least!

Anyway, I think your price is about right for whats available, but as it's a bit specialist, you'll get as much as someone wants to pay for it! Best thing to do is to p/x it for something thats EASY to sell!

Phil

Hi Phil,

By coincidence I got rid of mine on the 31st (I was too tight to re-tax it ) to a Trader as well. I px'd it for a P-plate 1.7 Vauxhall Astra diesel estate and a cheque for £2100. All in all the deal was worth £3900 which is less than a private sale but chance's are I'd still have the bloody thing in six months waiting for the £5K I would have wanted. Before too long I'd have had to fork out for new discs and pads and a few other tings so all in all I'm not too upset with the price I got. I'll run around in the 'Ashtray' for a few months, give it a little TLC (without spending money) then get shot of it or px it for an Escort or something.

I haven't driven the Ashtray yet other than to get it home on New Year's Eve. I couldn't tax it until I had the new insurance paperwork, then on New Year's Day I buggered my right knee and have been stuck indoors since hobbling around on a stick......what a pillock eh?

Glad you managed to get yours sold, once you make the decision to sell you just want it gone ASAP don't you. Hanging on for that extra few quid just isn't worth the hassle.

So what's with the Saab? Are you keeping it or px'ing it for the Vectra?

Would you have an SVX again? I've given it some thought and decided that I've been there, seen it etc, etc. The cost of Subaru parts has put me off Scooby's for a while, I think I'll stick with my Opel Monzas in future.

Cheers mate.

Glenn

EDIT: I see both our cars have appeared on Auto Trader's website. Yours has a £600 mark up and mine £3K.

Getting the Vectra as well as the saab, may keep the vectra, then again may keep the saab! Dunno yet?
I think the vectra might be worth a bit of profit? & the saab aint that bad for now! Not sure yet!
All depends what happens on the bird & flat front! LOL

I would have another SVX, but it would have to be when i can afford to run 2 cars! The SVX is definately a 2nd car!

Phil.

P.S. As you can see from the time, just got in from 'The Chapel' & wasted, so if this makes no sense.........Ah Well! LOL

When I was looking to trade my car in for a Skyline, I was told the two 'bibles' they use for valuation quoted £1000-£3000, mine being 110k miles, 1992.

Yeah, they don't book at much, but most traders know what they're worth anyway!

The dealer who bought mine showed me the book value of mine taking into consideration the mileage was £3900, which is what I got.

I'd be surprised if he gets the £6995 he's asking for it now. I paid £6500 for it back in 2003 when it had 18K miles less. But you never know, another mug like me might come along.

Won't the Saab be more expensive to run? Parts are a bit pricey so I hear. Still, gotta be better than a diesel Vauxhall eh?

Glenn, [and Tony ], it never ceases to amaze and amuse me the brass neck that car salesmen have.

Two different salesmen took the trouble to show you both the low book value for the SVX because you were trading/selling the cars to them

What do you think are the chances these books or book values will be produced to show to the customers who come in to buy the cars?

Yeah, that's what I think , too.

This is the reason I have not dealt with car dealers for years. In the words of Quentin Wilson I think it is, "they want all the money".

Every cheap car I import from Japan, I bask in the warm glow of knowing I am making it it harder for them to shift their stuff, or at least keep down the prices.

Joe

That's not a bad price, bloody cheaper than Subaru. So what does the Saab go like? I've always had a soft spot for them, pre-GM ownership though when they were 'proper' Saabs with stacks of character.
