New way to adjust rear-view mirrors
Cool link for a new way to set rear view mirrors. I tried this and it is amazing how much better it seems to be.

I've been doing that for years in my cars and in other people's cars I drive.
Basically if a car's passing you you should never lose sight of it. It should pass seamlessly from your rear view mirror to your side mirror to peripheral view. Most people have a blind spot between the side mirror view and peripheral view.

My dad told me to do this when i first started driving.. works pretty well.. the SVX mirrors don't go out QUITE enough for it to be seemless from my sideview to my peripheral vision.. but its pretty good

Subaru actually had this in Drive magazine quite a few years back - been using it ever since and it is great.
My brother became a state trooper not too long ago and this is also what they trained him to do in the cruiser.

I've been doing that since I've been driving. What I do is go onto a multi-lane road, then adjust the mirror so that the road lines of the next lane are in centered the outer lower corner of the mirror. The SVX mirrors don't quite do that, but it is very close.
But what we need to have is a company make us some replacement mirrors with both heaters and electonic dimming. That is one of the coolest features ever. For me, its not the trucks so much that blind me, but the ricers with the 100Watt low beams with a terrible scatter problem. Doug

Both heaters and electronic dimming and if comes with the first wide-angle (anything like this? just get the idea from the camera len ) side view mirrors will be real neat.

The back corner of the cars never move. But I would still love to see a lil bit of the back corners of the car in the side mirrors because when I move around or switch lane quickly so I can estimate how close my car with others. Of course, if I switch very quick, I prefer to turn my head or lean my head forward to check on that side-view mirror to make sure I cover my blind spot...

I have done this for quite a while as well. It works great and there are no blind spots that way. If you haven't done this before, try it, you'll like it.

Yep, likewise. I have done this for a long time.
A neat way to do this is, for the driver's side view mirror, to lean far to the left and adjust the mirror where you "just" see the left rear of the car. Then switch to the left and do the same thing, except lean to the right and look for the right rear of the car. Sitting upright in normal driving position, both mirrows are right in line to see down the side of the car (with the side of the "just" out of view and the adjacent lane of traffic clearly in view. YEAH
this is the way to go. the seamless thing is the best way; no blindspots. i have this parabolic add on mirror for my car.... it just clips over the old rear view, but it lets me see out the back side windows from the rear view position. works perfect for the svx, with all its windows, but the darn thing is *just* too wide, so putting down the visors is a pain. worth it tho for the added visibility |

Wow some people must have a real problem when it comes to looking over there shoulder. I just keep my eyes wide open when I drive.
