Crossfire/Magnum/300C

Man, Chrysler is pumping out some GREAT looking cars.... you guys like them? The crossfire looks HOT, I saw one in person a few days ago, and for a while I couldn't figure out if it was a new ferrari or a jaguar or what.... WOW! That's a sexy car, too bad it's kinda underpowered. >shrug< HOPEFULLY, they'll bring the SRT Crossfire to production, it'll have 330hp. HehEheh. The 300C is a great callback to the REAL 300s, unlike that pathetic 300M that came out a few years ago... talk about UGLY, and the thing didn't even live up to it's 300 namesake, it had LESS than 300HP! The new one makes up for it! It's a large and in charge sedan that looks like it came right out of 1967!!!!! The magnum also looks pretty evil.

I wish Subie would hire some of their designers!!!!!!!

i haven't seen the "300" you speak of.. post a link?

i remember when the crossfire and the magnum started showing up in magazines.. the crossfire looked pretty sweet.. it's basically an SRT-4 motor hooked up to a rear-drive tranny and a stripped-out interior..

and the magnum... oooooooooh the magnum..... supercharged hemi v8 rwd STATION WAGON.

awesome.

I think the Crossfire looks...okay. But I'm certainly not as excited about it as you are, Rob. It's not a design that'll endure - that's my opinion.

I have Jeremy Clarkson's review of the Crossfire. He totally panned it.

Rob,

A few weeks ago I posted my impressions of the styling of the Crossfire. I had parked our SVX alongside the Crossfire. At that time they only had the smaller engine and had not yet announced the convertible. You may want to find that post and read it.

From a strickly styling viewpoint, my initial impression is that the grills on the new 300 & the Magnum are too mmassive for the rest of these cars. They make the front ends look too heavy. The original 300C & D had big grills , but the design flowed into the tail fins and was more balanced front to back. I have only seen photos of the new 300 & Magnum and will reserve final judgement until I can walk around these cars

Actually, the Crossfire is a rebodied Mercedes SLK, not an SRT-4. Even the upcoming PVO version is nothing more than the SLK AMG. I think the Crossfire looks okay, but is no where near as good looking as the concept was.The Magnum is sharp though, and if the new Charger lives up to the look of the concept, then I'll be impressed.

I would love to see someone (Chrysler) incorporate a modern version of "boat tail" styling into one of todays sporty cars.

I think you mean CLK, not SLK. If it was based on the SLK, it would cost considerably more.

We showcased a Crossfire hardtop the other night at a hockey game (every game a different car is driven around the ice during the 1st intermission before the Zambonis go out). It did look a lot nicer in person up close than I had expected by looking at pictures.

There are a few things I don't like about the style, and also IMO for what it is it needs more power.

Well somewhere i heard they were gonna put the hemi in the Crossfire, I know they are with the 300C and Magnum. I personally like what Chrysler is doing now, and with the Charger Concept maybe making it to production, it might pull them away from the dark days of k cars, p-bodies and what-not. Mercedes has really turned this company around, and I LIKE IT!

Im going to look at a Neon R/T today, because they are cool, and since the Volare is gonna be put back in storage, i need a reliable car.

The crossfire uses a V6... the Neon SRT4 is a 4 banger, so no, it's not the same engine. Anyway, the supercharged crossfire will use the same v6 with boost. And yeah, it's based on the SLK chassis. The SLK is an old car, and it really isn't very expensive.

Anyway, I'd take the 300C. That is one badass mama jama.

The crossfire looks fine, until you see the back of it. That's just about the ugliest rear-end i've ever seen.

Also - WHY oh WHY does chrysler refuse to build a V-8 coupe?! I could maybe build some respect for this company if they'd grow some balls in the car area. They've got the truck thing figured out (except for styling), now put some muscle in the cars! Trust me, they're going to need it!

Shadow, I think you know I'm a big GM fan (though not as fanatical as you ), but I also love pointing out irony.

You can correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't our almighty GM just recently axe their last two V8 coupes, the Firebird and Camaro?

So doesn't that put GM in the same boat as Dodge/Chrysler?

All I can think of for GM V8's is the Corvette (2 seater sports car, not really a coupe and if you go there, then D/C DOES have something - the Viper, I doubt there are any complaints that is isn't exactly a V8 ), trucks/SUVs, and the bigger Cadillacs (not coupes).

In fact, I'm kinda saddened to think right now the only V8 coupe available for the last couple years and probably for the next couple to come is the Mustang. Not that there is anything wrong with the Mustang, but that's sad.

I was guessing that's what you were referring to. A very neat car indeed. 250hp..rwd...6spd... and it ships with no stereo or speakers, just holes for you to install your own choice of components. It will never be produced, sadly. Why? Because of mercedes. It'd look bad if a cheap 15k car could kick the crap out of almost every mercedes model in their lineup.

>sigh<
